Hi and welcome.

How are you thinking of bringing your diabetes under control?

Many of us found that taking control of our health brought multiple benefits along with putting T2 into remission.

Hello @Fishey aka Brian and welcome to the forum!

There is a lot of advice on here -
Learning Zone, the red tab at the top of this page
Living with Diabetes on the Home Page of Diabetes UK
Look through previous Posts in the Newby, Food & Carbs, and if necessary Weight Loss Sections

You will almost certainly have to change your diet by reducing your carbohydrate intake, but as mentioned, many people take their diagnosis as the motivation to cut out junk food, processed food, a lot of booze, do more exercise, eat more veg, and all the rest of the healthy stuff we hear about

There is a lot to read and understand, which can be overwhelming, so pace yourself, and ask any specific questions -
don't be embarrassed, nothing is too silly or too simple

Welcome to the forum.
Would you like to say a bit more about your diagnosis, what your HbA1C is, if you have been prescribed any medication and if you have weight to lose as all those things will indicate how much you will need to do to bring your blood glucose level down and manage your condition, I don't like the term control or think of it an an illness.
Dietary changes are going to be important but depending on where you are in the diabetic zone it may only be some modest adjustments to your carbohydrate that will be needed.
Have a look at this link as it may help you with some ideas for what you will need to do, there is a good explanation and some do's and don'ts as well as menu ideas.

Many find a low carb approach successful but whether that will be suitable may depend on what if any medication you are on. Low carb is suggested as being no more than 130g per day total carbs but is definitely not NO carbs.

Welcome to the forum @Fishey

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. How did it come about? Was it something that has been building up for some time or has it come as a bit of a bolt from the blue? Do you have any members of your close family that live with diabetes?

We have lots of different members here, all finding their own unique combination of tools, suggestions, strategies and ways of eating which work for them, fit into their lifestyle, and give them the results they are looking for.

Diabetes can be a fiercely individual thing, and there's no 'one size fits all' approach that works for everyone, so it can be helpful to have a community of people whose brains you can pick and who can tell you their approaches to give you ideas of things you might like to try.

Diabetes is a serious condition, but it’s also one that can usually be managed well with a few changes and adaptations - it’s something that you can learn to live well with, and it shouldn’t stop you doing things you enjoy. Try not to be disheartened about your diagnosis, many people on the forum later reflect that their diagnosis became a catalyst which prompted them to make positive changes towards a healthier and more active life. Perhaps changes that they had been intending to make for years.

Keep asking questions, and let us know how you get on 🙂
