I was diagnosed with diabetes yesterday but apparently I should have been told and medicated last August! So I am very new to everything. My mum was diabetic and was diagnosed in her lat 50's - so as I am nearing my 70's I suppose the knowledge that I might inherit helped me to anticipate with regards food intake (ie giving up chocolate,!) etc.
The delay in telling me about the diagnosis has caused me some problems as I am experiencing some effects that could have been avoided.
I have multiple chronic other heath conditions including partial paralyses of my left side which is much weaker than my right side of my body resulting in a built up shoe to even up the difference in leg length! Asthma, osteoarthritis, etc,
I already take a lot of tablets (far more than my mum took! - I wish I could talk to her about her experiences but she passed away 4 years ago. (55 years after being given 5 years to live with colon cancer)!
