Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi I have type 1 Diabetes, I'm currently suffering with a bacteria infection and water infection. I have been put on antibiotics but seem to be getting worse. My blood sugars are ranging from 21-25 and follow dafne so have been using sick day rules to bring them down but not working. I have checked for ketones and luckily don't have any showing but the high sugars are starting to make me feel unwell. Headaches, dizziness, lack of energy etc along with the pain from the infections.
Any advice would be appreciated

Welcome to the forum, randomtoni.

Hope the antibiotics and sick day rules start to take effect soon. Not much else to add, apart from suggesting drinking plenty of sugar free fluids to try to flush out bacteria in urine, plus ketones, if you have any,

Welcome to the forum. I wonder if you're having a bad reaction to the anti-bs? It might be worth talking to your GP about it on Monday.

Welcome Randomtoni. Hydration is very important so as said keep drinking. How long have you been on antibiotics ? normally take about 3 days to kick in & start working for me. Good luck

Hii Randomtoni welcome to the forum. If your bs is staying so high evan with corrections I would get in touch with your DSN at the diabetic clinic you attend as well as your gp if the antibiotics are not kicking in. Good luck and keep drinking lots of water, have they sent a urine sample away to make sure you are actually taking the correct antibiotics for your infection ? Take care.....Tintin

Definitely you must keep drinking especially water to flush out toxins and keep you hydrated. Dont hesitate to contact GP on Monday and rest rest rest

Thanks guys, been on antibiotics for 3 days now so was hoping for a little improvement. Gp made it clear to go back monday if sugars were still high and or infections not easing so looks like ill be back lol.
I get a little panicky when sugars go into 20's, can handle 19.9 😉

Aw dear not nice i know im 20.3 tonight as im under the weather with bad thrat and sneezing, a trip to GP for me to Monday have been trying to manage it but I will go. It does make you panicky the high sugars i really hate it. Just corrected

... and have you tried swapping your insulin for a new cartridge, just in case all this heat is knackering what's already in the pen?

Sorry to hear that you are feeling so unwell. Even after 43 years of diabetes I would be very concerned if my BGs weren't responding to the DAFNE corrections and staying in the 20s. As Trophywench said it would be a very good idea to change your insulin cartridge in case it is faulty. I hope that you do feel better soon.
