Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I am a male of 72 years and over weight was diagnosed with type 2 about six weeks ago, I know I have to lose some weight so any info on diet etc that work would be helpful

What advice/suggestions were you given by the GP?

Welcome to the forum @xtrucker
when you were first told you are T2 diabetic did the GP tell you your Hba1c
knowing this will help you understand how much work you need to do to manage your blood sugars,

a great place to start is by keeping honest food diary
people will be able to advise on the best substitute foods

Hi Newly diagnosed T2, a bit overwhelmed with everything and metformin side affects just began today!

Hi xtrucker, welcome to the forum.

I agree with the food diary advice. Only for a week, note down what you eat for each meal and then take a break and look at how you can reduce the carbs or replace them altogether.

You can still eat well, just need adjusting such as steak and salad instead of rice and healthy versions of kebab meat without the bread.

Feel free to have a look around the site including the link below and let us know if there's anything specific we can help with.
