Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
I am a newby to this forum but not a newby to Diabetes approaching 50 years with Type 1 so am very experienced and wise to it all. However I still have lots of unanswered questions and curiosity about the condition and other people’s experiences. I am a great believer that a problem shared is a problem halved.

Welcome Dianemacfaden. Ask away. There are lots of knowledgeable and helpful people on here who I am sure can answer your questions

Welcome to the forum @Dianemacfaden
Glad that you have joined us and look forward to drawing in your vast experience.

It is indeed good to be in touch with others and pick up tips. If you have any questions at all, just fire away. Out of interest are you Pumping or MDI, do you use a Libre, ...
I look forward t hearing more from you.

Hi and welcome from me too.

Great to have you on board and with such a wealth of experience too. I am a relative newby to diabetes at just 20 months but have learned most of what I know from other experienced members of this forum and my recent HbA1c result is testament to that help, so can really endorse the fantastic opportunity the forum provides to touch base and learn from others.

Look forward to hearing more about you and how you manage your diabetes.

The "7-day waking average" thread is a good place to get to know people, have a daily catch up whilst posting your morning reading together with any special plans you have for the day or issues/frustrations you may be having with your diabetes. It is a very long thread so don't feel obliged to read from the beginning, just jump straight in. You will soon become part of the community.

Hi Di - welcome here - you're younger than I but been D for a bit longer - difference being you were 9 at junior school and I was 22 and married! :D

No matter. I've been involved with online diabetes forums for approx 20 years; have learned shedloads since I started and still reckon I learn something different and new to me almost every day - I certainly know shedloads more about the complicated condition AKA Type 2; also MODY, LADA, neonatal, 3c and shedloads too about all sorts of other conditions that folk in general live with as well as their D. It also keeps me more up to date with what's occurring in 'my D world' than only getting news of it when 'Balance' drops through my letterbox.

There is never a 'silly' question from anybody on this forum and that's an absolute fact. Hence anytime you just wonder if A makes any difference to Z ..... ASK! I still need to do it - and do.

Make yourself at home and join in whenever you want to.

Welcome Diane

Welcome to the forum @Dianemacfaden

We have a few ‘long term’ T1s here - look forward to hearing more of your experiences over the years

I have had type 1 nearly 50 years. Biggest new development recently for me has been the Freestyle Libre and an end to endless finger pricking. I use novorapid and levemir and now manage consistent Hba1c‘s of around 55-60.
Apart from a few dodgy years in my teens I don’t seem to have any major long tern issues yet apart from background retinopathy and cholesterol on the up a bit and my consultant wants me to consider statins.
