Hi Christeen, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis - how did it come about? I'd recommend reading Maggie Davey's letter - there's quite a bit to read, but all very useful information 🙂 Also, I'd suggest getting a copy of the excellent Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker, which many of our members have found extremely helpful 🙂

Hello. Thank you for your response. I will take a look at your recommendations. It's all a bit confusing at the moment but I'm sure ill get there with some research. Ive yet to see the diabetic nurse and dietitian so I'm sure I'll get some info there. Apparently mine may be hereditary, as well as my being a bit on the chunky side, so work to be done to help myself there 🙂

Hi Christen , welcome. It is a bit of a shock when you're first told. Fortunately diabetes is a condition that with the right info and a bit of work can be well managed.
If you're able exersize helps too. This doesn't mean spending hours in the gym , going for a walk regularly is fine.
Feel free to ask questions we'll do our best to help.

Wow Lin, looks like you've been through the mill. From what the doctor said i think they have got my diagnosis early, hopeful that will mean easily managed. Took my first Metaform yesterday eve with no apparent ill effect. Time will tell 🙂. At the moment for me its working out what to eat. Ive ordered some recipie books and have yet to see the dietician so early days yet

Hi Christeen & welcome.
I advocate the book CARB & CALORIE COUNTER ~ it can be purchased from Amazon for £10.99 ~ has over 1700 coloured photos ~ a very useful & handy book to keep in the kitchen ~ and it has a section about what to eat when dining out. There's also the POCKET COUNTER ~ Amazon for £6.99 ~ which can be popped into a handbag or jacket when out & about. Imo these two treasures are a godsend for any Diabetic. Take care x

Hello and thank you for your advice. I have to be honest it is a little overwhelming at the moment. I'm sure it will get easier with time and becoming more educated on the subject. At the moment I'm just trying to inform myself with research, that's my way of dealing, learn all I can and then I have an idea on how to proceed. Once again, thanks for your input. 🙂

Hi Christine like you I'm recently diagnosed. I've gone on a low carb low sugar diet and my BS level has dropped dramatically from 17 to this morning 6.6.
It's a bit of a shock isn't it. I'm trying to be very positive.
Welcome to the club x

Hi Mark. I'm looking at recipie books and sorting cupboards like a fiend at the moment. The plan is to only have food in the house that I can eat, following a healthy eating plan and more exercise. My brother is already planing walks for us to take and friends are offering exercise support, so going ok at the moment .... I think. I see the Diabetic nurse next week will know more about how to go on then. Thank you for responding to my post. It's nice to have people to talk to who are dealing with the same 🙂 onward and upward

Hello Christeen, welcome to the forum 🙂

Hello Christeen, welcome to the forum 🙂
Hi Ditto, pleased to make your acquaintance. Takes me all my time to remember my Metformin and I have an alarm on my phone for that. You must rattle when you walk. Re: diet. I've still to see the dietician and D nurse so I'll sort my food regime then. Started recording intake today, see how I go from here

Heh! Any tablets ingested by me are well cushioned, you can't hear the rattling for the fat. :D
