Newbies say hello here

Hello and welcome.

So sorry you have qualified to join our club here but so pleased you have found the forum as it is a goldmine of knowledge, support and practical experience and I am pretty sure you will be in need of all three of those at the moment because a Type 1 diagnosis can be massively overwhelming and scary in the first few weeks and months and indeed longer.

Which insulins have they started you off on and how are you managing?

Do you have a Constant Glucose Monitor (CGM) which is a sensor which attaches to your body that gives you readings via an app on your phone or are you just finger pricking at the moment?

Hope you didn't have a DKA (Diabetic KetoAcidosis) event to diagnose you but if you did, I hope you are now fully recovered.

Are there any questions you have about anything? I found it really difficult to take in all the information in the few short appointments I had with the nurse in the early weeks, but the forum was great for filling in the blanks were info had gone in one ear and out the other. 😳

Please let us know if there is anything we can help you with. Diabetes can be really isolating and impacts so much of our everyday lives, it can feel quite isolating because it is really difficult for non diabetics to fully understand how complex it is and how much head space it takes up and all the things we have to consider and plan for, so coming to the forum and getting support and tips and having a good moan about the unfairness or frustration or celebrating some little triumph we had is really helpful in knowing that we are not alone and everyone here is rooting for you and understands the challenges.

Welcome to the forum.
Don't worry about never posting on a forum before.
The "rules" are pretty simple
- no question is too silly. We have all been in your situation at some point so can share our experience and thoughts
- share as much as you want. Some of our members may come across as very nosey when you join asking lots of questions. This is so that we can make our answers as specific to you but do not feel you have to share everything or anything you feel is too private.

You will find the forum friendly although we will share a rant with people who share our experience or a joke when we need something lighter.

Hello and Welcome Lovelbie 🙂

Hi, i have t1 diabetes and was diagnosed just a few weeks ago. I've never posted in a forum before.
Hello I was diagnosed in April, I was like you never been on one. Only found out about this forum few weeks ago, and the help and tips are great. Probably more information on here than get from doctors

Hi @Woodywoodpecker
Welcome to the forum, it really is a fantastic place to gain support and sometimes get some help (thought other peoples shared experiences)
there must be such a knowledge of what we’ve all been through

a very good point you put there in your comment regarding more information on here than the Dr’s give you <3
In fact that reminded me, I’m sure I heard some HCP’s are actually recommencing newly diagnosed people head over for support

Welcome to the forum @Lovelbie
Very pleased that you have found the forum. There is a wealth of experience to tap into and plenty of support available. Fire away with any questions that arise.

If you are happy to tell us which insulins you are using it will help us when answering your questions.
Remember that nothing is considered silly. Just ask.

Welcome @Lovelbie - sorry that you've had to join us (in a way) - but glad you've found us - I was only diagnosed 2yrs ago so it's still a bit raw for me as well - not going to promise it'll be easy, but it will be a lot easier than if you hadn't found this community - there is a huge wealth of knowledge and understanding here and we're all here to help you through your Diabetes journey - please feel free to ask any questions you may have (however trivial they may seem)

Mine certainly never. Remember going to hospital appointment in the summer, asked if heat affects bg she said no. Came across a link on here where people were on about heat affecting bg

Welcome to the forum @Lovelbie

Have a look around, and ask any questions you have.

It’s such a steep learning curve in the beginning! You might want to register for the Learning Zone (orange tab in the main menu) which has a host of bite sized modules you can work through.

There are also a selection of links and resources you might want to dip-into to pick up some more information.
