Is there a difference between sukkarto 1000mg sr and metformin 1000mg mr
I think sukkarto is a brand name whereas metformin is the generic name but it is still metformin. I think the sr stands for prolonged release (slow) and the mr is modified release again slow.

Sukkarto is one of many brands of Metformin Slow/Modified release. I think I counted I have had at least 6 different brands over the years, but for the last few I always have Sukkarto as that is the stated brand on my prescription.

It should depend on what the GP has written on the prescription I think.

As far as I understand it (completely medically unqualified) if they mention the brand name the pharmacist has to dispense that particular product, but if only prescribed by ‘generic’ name then a lower cost version can be dispensed.

Think of it like ibuprofen, vs Neurofen.

They are effectively the same (but there might be some difference in the exact action / timing) but one will be much more expensive than the other.
