Hey. So feeling overwhelmed. Confused. Hoping to get answers and support
Welcome to the forum
Would you like to say a bit about your diagnosis, what was your HbA1C as that will indicate how much work you need to do and are you on any medication as that may affect the advice people give.
Have a look at the Learning Zone to get better knowledge of the condition and this link may help you find some ideas for a dietary approach that may suit you. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
Please ask any specific questions that you may have, people are finding support from their GP surgery is a bit lacking at the moment.

Hi and welcome.

Sorry to hear you are struggling. Have you been recently diagnosed?
Would you like to tell us a bit about how that diagnosis came about? ie. Routine blood test or symptomatic and if so, what symptoms.
Have you been given any medication for your diabetes?
Do you know what your HbA1c result was? This is the blood test used to diagnose diabetes and track your journey with it. If you have a full diabetes diagnosis, then it will usually be a number in excess of 47. That number gives an indication of just how badly things have gone awry with your Blood Glucose (BG) levels and will give an indication of how minimal or perhaps significant the lifestyle changes you make may, may need to be.

"Overwhelmed" is a word which features in almost every "Newbie" post. The good news is that we all started out feeling like you do now, but it gets easier and I think many people look back and feel that it was actually the kick up the backside they needed to address some issues that they had been ignoring for a while and now feel much fitter and healthier and slimmer for the changes they have made. I personally feel that diabetes has made me healthier rather than the other way around. It was hard at first but I wouldn't go back. I enjoy my food and my new waistline and that most of my joint pain has gone and I can not just walk down hills now, but run, whereas before i was hobbling. So there have been some positives to come from it for me. I hope you will be able to look back in a year or two and feel the same.

As regards getting "Answers"..... You will need to ask the questions first... so feel free to ask whatever you want and we will do our best to point you in the right direction, but it is important to understand that human bodies are all different and there is no one size fits all. You may need to do a bit of experimenting, to find what works for your body, your diabetes and your tastes and lifestyle.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis :(

Was this something that came on rapidly, or has it been building up for some time? Do you have diabetes in your close family?

Here are a few good places to start that have helped lots of new forum members over the years.

One is the Learning Zone. Heaps of bite-sized modules that you can work through. Click the orange tab in the main menu.

Alternatively you might like to gradually work your way through Maggie Davey’s Letter to the Newly Diagnosesd or get hold of a copy of Gretchen Becker’s book T2 Diabetes, the first year. One is a personal reflection, the other is written in easy to understand language will give you a solid starting point.

And keep asking question on the forum too. We have ce turies of lived diabetes experience, and nothing will be considered too obvious or ‘silly’.

Let is know how you get on 🙂
