diagnosed 6 weeks ago and finding it hard , I don't like rice , not a lover of nuts and seeds , finding it all over whelming, what to cook/eat

Sorry to hear that, I know it's a bit of a shock.
There isn't one right diet for T2 diabetics, I'm pretty sure I don't eat all the same foods as other people on the forum, it's about finding food that you like, that's easy to prepare, doesn't cost a bomb and doesn't do bad things to your diabetes.
What sort of stuff do you like to eat? What sort of foods have they suggested you have?

I like all the bad stuff lol , I haven't seen anyone about what I should eat , my dr just gave me the news I was type 2 and gave me metformin , the rest I am trying to find out on line , my diet wasn't that bad before but my downfall was eating biscuits with every cup of tea ! . I eat wholemeal seeded bread , I don't eat butter as I don't like it, I do like potatoes but don't like rice much

Welcome to the forum.
No problem you don't like rice as it is not too good for Type 2 diabetics anyway. A shame you don't like nuts and seeds as they are good low carb additions but there is still plenty you can eat. Basing meals on meat, fish, eggs, cheese, full fat dairy, vegetables and fruit like berries will give you plenty of options. The foods you need to be careful of are bread, potatoes, pasta, starchy veg and tropical fruits as well as cutting out cakes, biscuits, and sugary drinks including fruit juices.
Depending on what your HbA1C is you may only need some moderate changes to your diet and any exercise you can do will help.
Have a look at the Learning Zone for lots of information and also this link may help you find a way forward with a low carb dietary approach which many people find successful, low carb being less than 130g per day TOTAL carbs. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/

thanks for the advice ,when I was found I had type 2 I was in a&e and my blood sugars were in the dangerous level , since then I have managed to get them down to border line and a couple of times in the normal range . I will check out the Learning Zone , thanks again

Sadly, biscuits will do bad things for your blood glucose levels, as will potatoes and bread, to a lesser extent. I used to love a biscuit (Garibaldis being the best!), but I've mostly given them up, except the odd Nairn's cheese oatcake, as I'm trying to lose weight.
There's lots of information in the Learning Zone at the top of the page, if you sign up for that, you can find out a bit more about diabetes and how to manage it.
There's also information about diet on the main site which is useful, and a thread called What did you eat yesterday? where you can see what other people have had. It's a mix of type 1 and type 2 diabetic people, so all sorts of different meals. There are also meal plans and recipes on the main site.
The metformin you're taking needs to work hand in hand with diet changes I'm afraid as it's not a magic bullet. The more carbohydrate rich food you have (like biscuits), the more you risk getting higher blood glucose levels.
There's loads of choice, you need to find what you like, try new foods to see if you like them, and see what you currently eat that you can adapt to make it a bit more diabetes friendly.

I know what you mean, it’s all a bit confusing and takes a bit of time to get your head around it doesn’t it?

I’m no expert because it’s all new to me too but I would suggest not trying to change everything at once.

Perhaps consider cutting out any sweet, sugary foods first, such as biscuits and cakes - anything that has added sugar in it.

Then, rather than eating no potatoes, pasta, bread etc cut your normal portion by a third or half if you can manage it.

Those changes alone will help you feel more in control of what you are eating and will make a difference.

If you find yourself hungry with reduced bread and potatoes try chicken, eggs, cheese - all protein foods, rather than a bowl of cereal which was my go to quick fix.

I was surprised at how quickly my palate and body got used to it and I’ve since been able to make other changes to my food choices and it’s not as impossible as it first feels. I’ve only been making changes for a month and those small changes have soon mounted up to something bigger and “better” for me.

Don’t think you can never have the things you like again, you’ll only crave them more so just try and have reduced portions, less often.

Just making those few changes will start to make a difference whilst you do your research, build your knowledge and decide what kind of food goals you want to set for yourself. As others with greater experience and knowledge will no doubt say, there isn’t a one size fits all but you will find your own way as you build your knowledge.

Don’t worry, I dont ever eat rice or nuts or seeds so don’t think those are problematic
