I’ve been diagnosed Type 2 September. Blood glucose started as 23.8 varies now from 5.6 - 7.00. I’m on Metformin morning and night. I’m eating low carb, occasionally one slice of granary bread but mostly meat/fish plus salad or green veggies. If anyone has any advice I would welcome it.

Hi Lynn and welcome

It sounds like you are doing great judging by those readings and I predict a very impressive result when you next get a blood test at the doctors. Is there anything particular that you are struggling with?
Hope the Metformin isn't causing you any digestive upheaval.
Do you have much/any weight to lose?
How are you feeling in yourself? Levels in the 20s are not nice but if you have been high for a long time, your body gets used to them and then normal levels sometimes don't feel so good for a while but eventually your body adjusts and you start to feel so much better.

You sound to be doing really well, sometimes the challenge is having enough variety in your meals so as not to get bored.
Have a look at the thread What did you eat yesterday in the food and recipes forum for ideas of what Type 2 folk have, just bear in mind some people will have different regimes depending on whether they are just dietary managed or also taking meds so some people will be more strict with their carb intake.

Hi Lynn99, welcome to the forum.

Well done for bringing your numbers down. Do you test your blood sugars daily? Some type 2's aren't instructed to but it can really help to maintain control of things. You can find more about testing on our main site https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/managing-your-diabetes/testing.

Your diet sounds great so do feel free to head over to the food section as you'll find lots of ideas and advice on staying on track. If there's anything in particular that you'd like help with, do let us know.

Hello @Lynn99 Sounds as if you are of to a great start dealing with your situation.
There is a lot of great information here.
Christmas can be a tricky time to keep on track with low carb/keto eating but the good news is that there are many recipes for Christmas treat food that keep you within your limits without you having to feel left out.
I use testing as a way to help me stay under good control - I am able to do that these days without metformin by making my food from very low carb ingredients and keeping below 20g carbs per day. Others can do the same with higher carb allowances per day and testing helps people find out where their optimal point for carb intake is.

Thank you. I’m on Metformin twice daily but no adverse effects. I find that I can go from 5.4 to 6.00 within one day even though I’ve eaten similar foods! I do my blood glucose every day so I can’t work out why they change. I will look at the recipes though, thanks

Thank you Cherrelle. I have lost 2 stone in 10 weeks but need to lose a lot more but I’m having trouble finding the food/recipes section! Can you point me in the right direction please?

There is really no difference between 5.4 and 6, it would be within the normal variation you would expect with a monitor, so not unexpected.

Thank you so much for all your advice. I’ve checked out the Facebook page and bought the book Diabetes:The First Year
