Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Dear All,
I've recently been diagnosed with T2 diabetes as a complication after 18 months steroid treatment to help manage the side affects of cancer treatment.
I'm sorry if I'm repeating previous posts but could anyone recommend a smartphone/tablet app that could help me keep track of carbs etc. Apart for a list of websites ( hence I find myself here) I have not been given much information. I assume that will come with my 3 month review. Feeling a bit lost. Any help appreciated. GeoffTWO

Hi welcome to the forum, you will find lots of useful information and advice and realise you are not alone in the position you find yourself.
Have a read at some of the other 'newbie' posts and the learning zone will give you a good start. There are many techy options people use (I don't myself) so I sure they will offer some suggestions.
There are certainly things you can be doing immediately and you will hopefully be in a better position when it comes to your review. As you probably realise dietary changes are going to be crutial.
If you could give a bit more information i.e. What is your HbA1C and are you on any medications as that will help people tailor their advice and suggestions.

Sorry to hear you’ve been dealing with cancer and have landed diabetes as an extra bonus @GeoffTWO

Did your device auto-correct carbs to cards?

If it’s carbohydrates you are interested in tracking, lots of forum members find Carbs and Cals (either the book, app or both) is really helpful. It provides a visual reference to the carb content of a whole range of foods with photos of different portion sizes as well as details per 100g.

Myfitnesspal and possibly nutracheck?) is also found useful by several members for tracking food intake. I think either one or both of those may be slightly Americanised, but I don’t use them so I can’t comment.

mySugr is popular as a diabetes logging app where you can track your carbohydrate intake along with your blood glucose results, meds, mood, and all sorts of other things.

Hope these give you some starters.

I agree with what @everydayupsanddowns has written.

Carbs and Cals - both the app and the book - is a really sensible investment. If you just get one, get the app.You "build' you own meals in it as well as check most foods.

MySugr is really good, I paid for it for the first year, but now use the free version, which has enough features for me.

I tried a lot of apps in the beginning. The only other one I really liked was called Glucose - Blood Sugar Tracker by a company called Adappt LLC. It was great until they put more than the most basic features behind a pay wall (which is expensive).

Thank you, I hadn't notice the autocorrect.

Another useful app is nutracheck. It’s uk based and you can scan packaging. They usually do a 7 day free trial to try it out.
