Hi All

New to the forum and to diabetes. I was diagnosed at the start of August as Type 2 with an hbac1 of 58. Hoping to get into remission any helpful advice would be appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Sorry but it's a bit late and I'm tired, so I'll just say that there is loads of advice & information on here; read previous threads in the sections that are relevant to you, like Newcomers, Food & Carbs, and so on

Ask questions if you want more - nothing is silly, we've all been where you are

Hopefully other members will give better or longer answers, and I might even manage that myself from tomorrow

Welcome @Littlegrey 🙂 Making a food diary is a good start. Look at what you were eating before diagnosis and see where you can make improvements. If you have weight to lose, that will help too, as will exercise - any exercise, it doesn’t have to be the gym.

Hi @Littlegrey and welcome to the forum.
It's good to see a newbie asking about remission. I had similar HbA1C as you when diagnosed. Now in remission (actually in non-diabetic normal range for over 1yr). Did it on Low Carb with extra Protein and avoiding low fat products (also not cutting visible fat off meat), Food Diary and Blood Glucose meter to test which meals I needed to avoid.
With Low Carb there is nor requirement for calories counting - avoid snacks but eat large satisfying meals to fuel til next one. Neither is extra exercise required to lose weight, but if you want to do extra exercise (more than a 30 min walk 5 times per week) then strength training (weights) is good since in conjunction with high protein it builds muscle and muscle stores glucose out of the blood stream.
Health detail are in my signature.

Hi Littlegrey, welcome to the forum.

Lots of great advice above and on the forum in general so do have a look around. With your numbers, you're in a good position to turn things around with some diet and lifestyle changes.

I'm not sure whether you've been advised to test your blood sugar levels at home but I find it really helpful to see how your meals are impacting you. You can find out more via the main site https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/managing-your-diabetes/testing.

If there's anything in particular you'd like support with, do let us now and we'll be happy to help.

Hi from me as well @Littlegrey You've started in a similar place to me
