Hi and welcome. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself so we can best make suggestions? How you got your diagnosis - were you feeling unwell, or was it a routine check up? What your HbA1c was - if you don't know please ask your GP surgery? Any other medical conditions and medications? What's your diet like? You will see my personal details in my signature below. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and coped fine until lockdowns and a 4 month illness. Back on track now.
We're a friendly and helpful (I hope) bunch. Best wishes
Would you like to tell us a bit about your diabetes? Things like, how long you have been diagnosed, what if any medication you are taking for it and your most recent HbA1c result if you know it. This is the blood test used to diagnose diabetes and will usually be a number of 48 or higher. It gives us an idea of how far progressed your diabetes is and enables us to make more appropriate suggestions as to what might help to push it back.
It also helps to know if you have much/any weight to lose and what dietary advice you have been given and how active/mobile you are.
Hope that doesn't sound like the Spanish Inquisition and don't feel you have to answer any question you are not comfortable with. The answers just give us an idea of where you are on the diabetes scale and what might be helpful things to suggest to help you push it back.
If you would like to tell us a little more about how you manage your diabetes it will help us to tailor our answers to any questions that you have.
there is loads of experience to tap into on here, and lots of useful information in the Learning Zine (a tab at the top of the page or in your menu (…) ). Have a read around and come back with any questions that you have.
Look forward to hearing more of your story over the coming weeks and months. We have literally hundreds of years of lived diabetes experiences, and all sorts of people using all sorts of different approaches to manage their diabetes.
Ask away with questions, or simply let off steam, moan, rant or laugh with us. You are among folks who instinctively ‘get it’ 🙂
