Hello all, im type 2, recently put on insulin, would like to do exercise but I have Fibromyalgia and Fatigue and an ileostomy. Not getting energy from what I eat.

Hi @Marjorie and welcome. Can you tell us a bit about yourself? How did you come to be diagnosed? Do you know what your HbA1c number was? It will be number above 48 which is the cut off for diagnosis

Hi, im 62 live on the Isle of Wight, i was put on insulin because blood sugar was 19. Now it is mostly in single figures but have recently been 15.

Hi @Marjorie welcome to the forum. A friend of mine has Fibromyalgia so I have some understanding how difficult it can be , unfortunately she is unable to do any exercise now.

What insulin’s are you on.
How long have you been in insulin
What exercise are you thinking if or would like to do .
How did you come to be diagnosed with diabetes
Sorry fir all the questions but they will help us give you the most appropriate advise , based on what has worked for us

Hi Marjorie, I'm sorry to hear you have Fibromyalgia, an ileostomy and diabetes. It must be very challenging managing all three. Its good that you are reaching out for help.

I am not sure if you have seen but there is a new programme we are running at Diabetes UK to help people who are currently doing less than 30 minutes of physical activity a week. I am a Physical Activity Helpline Advisor and am trained to help build confidence in moving more and can offer regular practical and supportive calls. If you are interested or have any questions about the service please feel free to private message me.

Any sort of regular movements you can do whilst in bed or a chair will help , ie rotating ankles one way then another , tightening then gradually releasing calf muscles will aid circulation.
Are you able to lift say a tin of peas a few times.
We have quite a few people on her who cannot exercise so don’t worry if you can’t.

Hi Marjorie, welcome to the forum.

It's not easy managing Fibro at the best of times let alone with diabetes. As you know, exercise can be really tricky when you have Fibro due to the fatigue that even the most basic workout can cause.

On a positive note, small consistent action can be really beneficial so it might be worth just focusing on somethings as simple as a stretch regime in bed to start with and graduate up from there by increasing the time and range of motions.

I can't provide medical advice but I know that energy is a really important factor when you're fatigued. Have you had any conversations which your health team about your iron, vitamin D and B12 levels? Even if not super low, supplements can assist with reducing the fatigue levels so it might be worth asking.

Thank you Cherrelle i am on extra vitamins prescription, but i will ask about supplements. Having an ileostomy means food passes through the system much quicker than would for people without an ileostomy. Your message helped me feel more positive. Thank you x
