Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi im subliminal hope type1 diabetic 46yrs love keep fit /art with pastels. Bit of a wild sense of humour...

Welcome to the forum from someone with a lot less experience, having been diagnosed 13 years ago at the age of 53. Great to have your experience on here.

We all learn about our diabetes, and how everyday is different, though each day i do virtually the same as before on a day to day basis. But omg the differnce in blood test results and CGM results. I have been type, 1 over 40yrs and it changes day in day out. I can imagine being told your diabetic at age 50+ can be alot to take in. Im sure you hsve uo and down days as well. But trust me you'll conquer nost of the obstacles diabetes throws at you. All the best SB.

Hello and welcome from me too. Great to have another experienced Type 1 on the forum. I hope to perhaps learn some tips and tricks from you.

Like @SB2015, I am a late starter with Type 1... just 20 months in for me, having been diagnosed at the age of 55.
Unlike you, I hardly ever do the same thing 2 days running and struggle to maintain any sort of routine, so I am trying to get the hang of aiming at ever moving goal posts. Thank goodness for the flexibility of split dose Levemir.... just trying to figure out how much I am going to take tonight... toss up between 2 or 3 units so maybe split the difference.... of maybe play it safer and just go for 2.

Are you MDI or on a pump? Do you have Freestyle Libre? It is such a game changer even for a newbie like me!
Modern tech makes things so much easier for us than it must have been for you in the early days.... and yet we still winge about it being difficult to manage our levels!

Anyway, good to have you on board and hope to learn more about you.

If you are interested there is a thread called "Group 7-day waking average" which is where many of us check in each day with our fasting reading and share our thoughts and plans for the day or just exchange pleasantries and a bit of banter. It is a very long thread so don't feel obliged to read through it, just jump straight in tomorrow morning if you like and you will soon get to know us and become part of the furniture. Hope to see you there!

I do have multiple injections. My diabetic team say im so well controlled with injections. So no pump unless i wish to to pay for one. I have novo Rapid before each meal and Lantus at 7.00am
I was on levemir for years. AM and pm but glucose results started going up /down so was put on lantus results got better and still on it.
What's good for me may not be right for others though.!!

Bit am having probs with novo Rapid. Which im reading about on here that im not only one. Not so Rapid!!!!!!!

Yes, it's not exactly swift acting. I was finding that I needed over an hour at breakfast time for it to kick in and once I went an hour and a half. I am now on Fiasp which is a bit quicker.

All my results cholesterol hb1ac etc etc all good . Stick to the right carbs at meals but because my results are always 70% or over in the target Zone. My team are great at care they give and say why spoil a good thing . What may cause more damage altering things.

Also ive lost all warning signs when hypos occur...

Welcome to the forum @Subliminal hope

Sorry to hear about your loss of hypo warning signs - not all that uncommon after a long T1 duration.

Hope you can get access to Libre2 which will be able to prompt you to check your BG if levels are dropping.
