Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1.5 LADA
Hi

Just been diagnosed with LADA which has apparently been quite rapid onset. All still seems very unreal and the novelty of being a human pincushion is already wearing off...

Matt

Hi @MattRussell and welcome to the forum. No consolation I know but rest assured you are not alone and some of our members who have been in the same position as you will be along soon to chat about how they got through that initial period.

So - had you had diabetes for a while but initially treated as Type 2 which has now turned into something that only responds to Type 1 treatment, or have you been newly diagnosed T1 later in life than you previously thought that could happen? - sounds more like the latter to me as you mention 'rapid onset' - usual with T1, not with T2 or most other 'types'.

Having said that, there about as many people diagnosed T1 in adulthood as there are in childhood and probably always were - had anyone made an effort to identify and count them!

Tell us more about what led to your diagnosis and how you're doing now - what treatment are you on? Are you starting to get your head round it, are you getting enough help with everything?

I was in the same boat mate. Everything came to a head rapidly but in retrospect things had been bumbling on in the background for a bit.

Yes it's a mind fracture getting T1 later on but you aren't alone.

Welcome @MattRussell 🙂

Sorry you’ve joined our club but rest assured you’re not alone and you’re welcome to have a moan or ask any questions you want.

Welcome to the forum @MattRussell

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but so pleased you have found the forum.

Diabetes is mangeable and shouldn’t stop you from doing anything you want to do (though it can take a little extra preparation, some lateral thinking, and can be a fristrating juggling act at times!).

It also be quite an isolating experience, and you may not know any or many people living with the same daily challenges ‘in real life’, so it can be hugely helpful to have virtual contact with a whole community to compare notes with and to share experiences.

Let us know how you are getting on, and keep asking questions 🙂
