Hi and Thankyou , I’m not very tech savvy but will try
I found out yesterday I am prediabetic and need all the help I can get please, i don’t mind admitting I was scared waiting for my blood results and from what the nurse had said about my previous count I though they were going to say Diabetes, I don’t know anything about it so very much in the dark right now , nice to talk to you
I need to lose weight for sure, I’ve let things go since i lost my husband , cooking for one was hard so I turned to read meals, not processed but never the less not as good as home cooked ,I have bad arthritis in joints ,hips etc and one really bad knee that is close to needing an op , so much going on and don’t walk very well so exercise hasn’t been done for a good few years either , all in all I’m a bit of a mess ☹️ And now need to take a look at what I’m doing , so Thankyou for your help and advise I’ll be taking it all on boardDon’t worry about the tech side. If you get stuck, just come back to this thread and ask for help. You could also experiment by clicking the tabs and things like “New Posts” top left. You’ve replied to me exactly right so you obviously know more than you think.
Others with pre diabetes or Type 2 will be along over the next few days, but in the meantime I’d say don’t panic. Use this time to assess where you are and the best way to move forward eg is your BMI (weight) in range, what’s your diet like, are you getting enough exercise (walking counts - it doesn’t have to be gym visits or anything).
If you can keep a food diary over the next week, then that might help you see where you can ‘clean up’ your diet - maybe reduce some carbs, add some green veg, etc etc.
Don’t try to make massive changes all at once. Tiny, logical steps work just as well and are less stressful and more likely to be made longterm changes.
Hi, ty for all the advise , seems so much to sink in so I’ll be doing a bit at a time as inka has suggested , probably best for meHi Kizzy
Pre diabetes tells doctors, you and us that your body can no longer cope as well as it used to, with dealing with carbohydrates once you've eaten them. Hence if you don't want your body to have to struggle more and progress into Type 2 diabetes, best take the action necessary now, to assist it.
It isn't all about sugar - though if you can cut out or at least cut down on a lot of stuff with it in, that will certainly help, since sugar itself contains 95-ish percent carbohydrate, in the form of both sucrose and fructose, fructose being the sweetening substance in fruit. They refine sugar from either sugar cane or sugar beet - both plants, hence the fructose content.
The next type of high carbohydrate food, is 'starchy' carb so eg anything with flour in it (bread, pastry, cake, pasta) rice (short and long grain) and potatoes, all sorts of fruit though 'tropical' fruit (including bananas) is the highest.
Rather than think of exercise as such , think of activity. Can you walk around the house, do bit of housework? There are also exercise you can do sitting.I need to lose weight for sure, I’ve let things go since i lost my husband , cooking for one was hard so I turned to read meals, not processed but never the less not as good as home cooked ,I have bad arthritis in joints ,hips etc and one really bad knee that is close to needing an op , so much going on and don’t walk very well so exercise hasn’t been done for a good few years either , all in all I’m a bit of a mess ☹ And now need to take a look at what I’m doing , so Thankyou for your help and advise I’ll be taking it all on board
