Hi,
My name is Robert, I was diagnosed 10 years ago after giving up smoking, im 5' 8" and 11 stone which is biggest ive ever been.

11 stone doesn’t sound too heavy for someone at 5ft 8, that would fall into the higher range of normal BMI , so you’re certainly not overweight.
Regards
M.

Hi @Nutty50, and welcome. Tell us a bit more about your diabetes story and as @Martin9 says, you do not fit into the overweight category. There are a few slim T2's on here you can swap ideas with.

I agree, I recently had a funny turn while away and a Doctor staying at the hotel helped out an told me point blank im not T2 as im to "skinny", he told me to speak to my GP and ask about Mody and get tested for that?? Was hoping to hear people's opinion on this?.

I've been a T2 10 years, 3 metformin daily 1 forxiga a day plus atorvastatin but my sugars never seem to get better, recently bought a tester an my sugars are around 10 to 12 daily, I've also developed pins and needles in my hands and feet. On my newbie post I explain a situation that happened recently which has me thinking.

I would take the Doctor you saw whilst away advice, but don't be surprised if your GP has not heard of or won't test.

There are a few here with MODY that will be better able to answer your questions, but your GP is the one to consult with first, they will be able to run tests that will check blood sugars over past 3 months and also kidney & liver function .

Sorry but the Tests for MODY are not the HBAC 1.

I would take a look at the information on the Exter University website as they the experts in MODY. They have information on their site.

Welcome to the forum @Nutty50

MODY is a monogenic form of diabtes, and is one of the few firms for which there are definitive tests. Most forms of diabetes seem to be best differentiated on clinical grounds, and things are complicated by the fact that some forms eg T2 are thought to have multiple sub-types - perhaps as many as 70!

There’s an overview of MODY here if that helps

I'm not over weight and have no family history either, been Type 2 since 2011. Are you on any other medication. I have been on anti depressants since 2003 and just found out they have been linked with blood sugar rises. I hope for my GP's sake that this isn't the case with me
