Welcome to the forum JoJoHi there just joined, I'm Jo I've been T1 for 43 years got diagnosed at the age of 5. Just waiting on appointment for a pump and the Libre. Basically I just wanted to say hi
Hi thank you I'm liking the omnipod as I have a grandson of 5yr boisterous and a sprocker spaniel that's also boisterous so thought it would be a good idea with no tubes but I'm uncertain as I'm also liking the new medtronic pumpWelcome to the forum. How exciting that you are waiting for an appointment for pump and libre, have you found a pump you would like?
It is worth bearing in mind not all hospitals offer all pumps.Hi thank you I'm liking the omnipod as I have a grandson of 5yr boisterous and a sprocker spaniel that's also boisterous so thought it would be a good idea with no tubes but I'm uncertain as I'm also liking the medtronic
Thanks for the info I've been watching YouTube for ideasWelcome @Jo-Jo-T1 🙂
I have a 5 year old and a spanielMy (tubed) pump has survived them both
The best thing I found was to read reviews of various pumps online and also watch Youtube videos of them. I then made my own ‘priorities’ list.
Yes I'm trying to find out what pumps my hospital offers 🙂It is worth bearing in mind not all hospitals offer all pumps.
Thank you and I will 🙂Welcome to the forum JoJo
Great to have your experience on here.
I too have a pump and a Libre. What a difference it makes. Better control and also much more flexibility. I have learnt most of what I know about making effective use of these from others on here, so I am glad that you have found us.
The other excellent resources I have used are
They are very useful.
- The books Pumping Insulin by John Walsh and also Think Like A Pancreas by Gary Sheiner
- The training videos for the Libre at https://abcd.care/dtn/flash-glucose-monitoring
Let us know how you get on with your appointment.
Hi there I'm currently using Novorapid and Lantus I'm struggling with my levels and also sometimes my bg can be 2.0 and I have no knowledge and also had a few serious lows so that's why I got told about the libre. I hate having to finger prick 10+times and the constant injections I just want to be free of them for once and I think I will have a lot more control over this which I can't wait for 🙂Hi and welcome from me too. Like you, I'm in the North East, but Durham is my hospital clinic. I am currently self funding the Libre but my consultant has authorised it for prescription, so hopefully I won't need to buy anymore from my own pocket. I have been using it for 3.5 months and the info it provides is amazing as well as giving you more confidence to do things.
Covid has caused a go slow with these things (I was actually authorised for Libre in Feb) but hopefully you will get sorted with your new tech soon.
Which insulins are you currently using and how do you find them? Are you having any particular issues that you hope the pump will fix? There are quite a few experienced pump users here on the forum who will no doubt be of real help once you get started.

I don't know for certain it's the levee they are going to offer me the nurse called it a button so I'm just assuming it will be the libre. My bg's have been all over the place since starting hrt 😱 earlier this year normal doctors said"it's probably down to that also you should be doing 4 blood tests a day as the strips are expensive" I couldn't believe themThat's a bit surprising, since hypo unawareness and similar aren't regarded as recommendations for the Libre. (Since it doesn't (yet) have alarms.)
Having said that it probably does (on the whole) help since it makes it more practical to avoid hypos for long enough for awareness to return. (Awareness doesn't always return, but if it does it'll probably happen after avoiding going low for a few weeks.)
(Testing 10 times a day ought to be enough on its own. And lacking hypo awareness seem to me likely to be a justification for needing to test that many times a day.)
Lantus at night this is why I'm hoping to get seen asap but knowing my luck it won't be until next year with this covidOh dear, that is not good, having very little hypo awareness. Do you go low overnight or is it through the day? Just wondering if Lantus may not be the best basal insulin for you?Have you tried others? Do you take it once a day and if so, morning or evening or do you split it and inject morning and night?
Hope you get fixed up with tech to help you soon.
My clinics are doing phone or video consultations.Lantus at night this is why I'm hoping to get seen asap but knowing my luck it won't be until next year with this covid
