It is great that you have been picked up whilst still borderline. This can give you the opportunity to make changes. With T2 your body is not making/using enough insulin to balance the carbohydrates that you are eating. By reducing the amount of carbohydrates (which all get changed into glucose once inside you) you are eating this reduces the amount of insulin that you need and you may find that you can get it back in balance.
The news reports tend to headline sugar but it is not just sugar. It is important to focus on total carbohydrates that you eat. These include the more obvious ones like cakes, biscuits, sugar, but also these are hidden in pre prepared meals. If you were to start to look at the total carbohydrates (ignore the of which sugar) on whatever you are eating you can then reduce these.
It is great to hear that you are trying seated exercises. It is understandable that initially this may make the pain worse, as your body gets used to using the muscles again. It may be that your GP can signpost you to some exercise programmes to help you. This can also then use up more of the glucose in your system and again reduce the need for so much insulin.
I hope that this helps.
