Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi All. I am Type 1 diabetic 58 years and started out on the Laurence Unweighed Diet. This diet was very harsh as you can see from the pictures, but we persevered and am now following the Carbohydrate Weighed Diet which I went on a coarse in Easbourne about 15 years ago.

Hi @starferry and welcome the forum. It’s always interesting to see how much advice/treatment has changed in such a relatively short time. How long did you follow the Lawrence diet for?

Hi @starferry and welcome to the forum.

How interesting to read hw you managed your diabetes in the early days. Things have changed so much, and continue to do so with all the different technology that is now available. I was only diagnosed 12 years ago and there has already been so much change in that time.

So pleased that you have jioned outs and that we can draw on your experience.

Welcome to the forum @starferry

Congratulations on your 58 years! Almost time for a DUK medal :D

We have a few members here who have a lot of diabetes years under their belts too, so you are in good company. I’m a relative newcomer, with not even 30 years of pancreas impersonation to my name yet!

Hiya @starferry - almost 48 for me.

Ruddy Carb portions! - aargghh - me and @Pumper_Sue both remember em well - some areas called them 'Rations' or 'Exchanges' - carb counting and dose adjustment is much more sensible to get your head round now we have proper basal and bolus insulins to use instead of 'mixed' insulins in fixed doses, which were only ever OK if you were prepared to have a very fixed life - which was difficult to say the least.

Are you pumping or using MDI?

And ‘lines’ @trophywench?

I only ever had carb ‘exchanges’ but I gather some places counted fats and proteins as exchanges too - but I’ve NO idea how that worked.
