Hi there, I'm new to the forum, unfortunately not new to diabetes. I've been diagnosed 10 years now. I'm type 2, mostly brought on by poor lifestyle, it's difficult to look after yourself when you have to look after everyone else. I don't get support other than from my GP surgery so I thought it time I looked for some from fellow sufferers who understand the condition and maybe help other newly diagnosed people who find it all a bit daunting.
Thank you! I remember being diagnosed and felt terrified at the thought of it all. I was on metformin for years and then put on Dapagliflozin 10mg. I was very overweight and changed my lifestyle. I'm now 6 stone lighter, which a bit more to shift. Off metformin and had the other dropped by half. I walk a lot more, I try and do 4 miles 3 times a week if not every day.
Well done Blue73, and yes, passing your story onto others who are just starting from where you used to be could be just the inspiration that they need.

Yes - I've lost a stone and have another 5 to go too. I do Aquafit 3 - 4 times a week now, so going in the right direction. So far no need for medication, but the BG not coming down like I'd wish.

You're doing brilliantly, I found I was impatient to lose my weight but I had a liver problem and was instructed to take it slowly and I would be more likely to keep it off. It's taken a while but I have a lot more confidence. I still want to loose about 3 stone (I was very overweight) and I'll be happy.

Thank you, I haven't had much help and support from family members and I think it's important with this disease to have that, if I can help just one person overcome fear or anxiety about being newly diagnosed then It's worth taking the time to help. I wished I'd had it and found this forum sooner.
Hi and welcome from me too. Sad that you have not had support from family.
Not sure how I would have survived the past 7 months without this forum and my family and friends. I am sorry that you did not find it sooner but great that you are on board now and happy to share your experience for the benefit of others.
Welcome to the forum, @Blue73. I'm sorry too that you're not supported by your family more but people still seem to find it hard to understand.
This is a marvellous place, people are knowledgeable because they have everyday experience, there are oodles of good advice, recipes, info etc etc. I have learnt so much - not least discovering the low carb way of eating, which has helped me greatly. Have a read around the forums and get acquainted 🙂 All the best to you from a fellow type 2.

I too don't have much support. There is no close family and none of my immediate friends want to talk about medical issues. Some people are just like that - or are head in the sand ostriches. I do have a cousin who was a diabetic nurse, who I have spoken to a couple of times, but she has her own health and family problems, and is hard to contact. So the forum is invaluable.
Why do you think that type two diabetes is brought on by a poor lifestyle?
It is controllable by not eating the 'foods' which businesses want to sell you - highly processed sugar and starch is so profitable (I used to work for Allied Lyons) but there are so many who want to blame diabetics for 'poor choices' when it is a simple response to the environment in which most of us live.

Hi there, my poor lifestyle was due to not eating throughout the day as I was too busy and then over eating at night and gaining a lot of weight. It's how my case has been seen really and how I've been made to feel regardless that it runs in both sides of my family.
