Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi everyone, hope you're all well. Bit nervous as I've never been on a forum. I'm on my mid 40's and only been diagnosed with T1 for two years. So if ask anything stupid please forgive me. X

Hi Cherry and welcome from me too.

This forum is a great resource for support and information as well as a really friendly community. I hope you enjoy and benefit from being a part of it as much as I do. I am a little more recent to Diabetes than you, having originally been diagnosed as Type 2 in Feb and then tested and confirmed Type 1 last month, but been using insulin since April. How are you managing? What type of insulin are you on? Is your BG reasonably stable? Have you tried any of the new technology like pumps and/or Constant Glucose Monitoring systems like the Freestyle Libre or Dexcom? This is a great place to learn about these things if you haven't come across them, although not everyone qualifies for them through the NHS, but some self fund if they can afford it.
Anyway, I hope we are able to provide you with useful info and perhaps gain some tips or advice from you. Make yourself at home and don't be shy to ask about anything..... I have to say it is sometimes easier to ask questions here where you are semi anonymous than face to face with a health care professional and a much more relaxed environment to do it in.... and the people responding know exactly what you are going through and relate to the emotions and fears and have the experience that no medical person who doesn't have diabetes can really comprehend.

PS. I see from one of your other posts that you have a DAFNE course coming up. Mine is in October and I am looking forward to it. Maybe we can compare notes!

Hi @Cherry 01 and welcome to the forum 🙂

No questions are silly and trust me we've all been there anyway! I am nearly 3 years in now
xx

Welcome to the forum Cherry.

Welcome to the forum Cherry.

Glad that you have found this forum. I was diagnosed at the age of 53 twelve years ago, and I think I have learnt most of what I know by asking questions on here. Let us know how you get on with the DAFNE course, and just ask any questions that you have.

Hello @Cherry 01 and welcome 🙂

I was in my mid-40s when I was diagnosed too - in my mid-50s now, the time has flown by! Please do ask any question you have, there is no such thing as a stupid question.
