Hi All
Diagnosed last week with Type 2 and High BP.

BP Meds seems to be ok but I am getting really bad diahorrea with the Metformin - please tell me it will stop, want to stay really positive but sometimes its hard. Currently taking 1 x 500mg twice a day, have to increase after a week to 2 x 500mg twice a day.

Any advise would be so so welcome and I know its early days, just want to know that I am not alone!

Hi Billychick, welcome to the group..... Yes, you are describing one of the side effects of Metformin, stick with it a little, it does get better, or if it doesn't there is an Extended Release version.

Even after 2 years I was sometimes getting what I describe as "Metformin days" had a couple of close calls getting back to the house when walking the dogs....😱

It can take a while for the body to become acclimated to metformin, that's why they started you off on a lower dose.

Metformin can be an utter pain! Mostly you will increase the dosage slowly so your body can get used to it, but I think most of us here who've had Metformin have suffered the side effects. I've moved on to the slow release version and its tonnes better, even if I do still get dodgy days. Don't be afraid to go back to your Diabetic care team to ask for a drug review if you can't cope with it, and you can ask to try the slow release.

Thanks for the advise - have not been on them long - will wait a week or so and see how I go. Fingers crossed!

Hello. I get the occasional upset tummy, I take 2 x metformin.

By five weeks I was losing the will to live, I stopped taking it just before Christmas 2016, but it went on for a while afterwards, it did stop eventually - and all the other side effects too.
I don't need it, which made the misery and pain all the more difficult to have endured.
