Hi James. In the same boat. All very confusing on what you can and cannot eat. Gets a little boring eating salad and fish all the time...
Hi Welcome.
Basically it's carbohydrates we have to be careful with especially the fast acting carbohydrates
Potatoes esp mash , pasta, rice and bread esp white, fruit juice and grapes are packed full of sugar.
Most of us find suitable substitutes, ie cauliflower rice, some of us are fine with a couple of small new potatoes.
Some here have Burgen (sp) bread , Lidle protein rolls or high protein bread .
I see from your other post that you don't eat meat. We do have some vegetarians on here. Hopefully they will be along soon.
Do you eat cheese, cream or eggs? If so they are fine. Some nuts are low carb
Their are two threads on here that you should find helpful both can be found on the carb/ queries and recipe forum.

To be honest the only way you can't find out how the various carbohydrates affect you is to test your own blood glucose yourself, just before eating then two hours afterwards
Sadly most T2s who are not on medications that can cause hypo's (low blood glucose) are denied glucose meters . If you want to test and are told no
Many here use the SD Codefree meter available directly from Homehealth as it has the cheapest test strips that we know of, around £8 for fifty where othe brands are £15 to £30
You're entitled to claim VAT relief, we use the mmol/l measurement in the uk .
They only provide 10 lancets and test strips so you'll need to buy more.
