Hi Jackie, welcome to the forum🙂 🙂 Don't panic! There are no forbidden foods, you are still allowed even naughty things as treats but you may need to eat less of them. The main things to avoid are the refined foods like white bread and pasta, and things like biscuits and sweets. What books have you ordered? Learn about Low GI foods, as these are more diabetes-friendly.

Hi Jackie and welcome like Northerner said nothing is a no no it is all about moderation, if you can step back and look at what you eat and then try and cut back on the sugary and fatty foods things should start to get better, it is good you have ordered books i got half my knowledge from my local library and websites x

Hi Jackie

I've just posted my "Hello" message too. I've been diagnosed Type 2 for almost a year. Had good results in controlling my blood sugar levels.
There are lots of opinions about the best way, but since we are all individuals no two people react the same way.

I adopted a low carbohydrate diet after 3 months of following NHS dietary advice because all the carbs in the recommended foods (e.g baked potato) gave me spikes.

Take time (if you have it 🙂), do some reading, try the Diabetes.co.uk forum too, particularly the low carbohydrate section which gives a good explanation of this aspect of control.

Try not to be too unhappy and don't let your diabetes control you.

Best wishes
Ken

Hi Jackie cant really add anything to the previous posts just wanted to say welcome 🙂.

Welcome from me too....and can only echo what everyone else has already said.

Hi Jackie and welcome to the forum.

Hi Jackie,
I too have just been told Iam type 2, so welcome to the forum.

Hi Jackie.
My general assumption is that all you need to do is eat what everybody would consider a healthy diet. Try to eat five types of fruit and veg a day and generally keep everything in moderation. You don't have to eat a special diet.
Don't worry about being un-diagnosed for a month. I could have been diabetic for a year and half before i was diagnosed. Most people are, because i think that diabetes is quite a slow onset disease (type 2 is anyway, i think you can become type 1 overnight in some cases) but it's common for have been diabetic longer than you know about it. The good thing is, you do know about it now, so your health care team can give you the best care and support and you can learn to care for yourself.

I am still muddled, but have been trying to eat healthy, and will be seeing my diabetic Nurse on 1st Feb, hope she can guide me.
I wonder if i could have had this before as I have always struggled with my weigh, perhaps I will loose a few pounds (Stones😉 lol.

Thank you all for your support, I can see i will be logging on more, (if I can remember my password!!!!!!!!

Hi Jackie nice to see you , maybe you could write your password down and put it safe, i have a little red book with all my passwords in, and i try and keep the same password as its easier for a clutz like me to remember lol.Good luck for the 1st Feb maybe you could think between now and then about some questions you want to ask the nurse/gp and write a list down so at least you can go in there prepared x
