Hi Derek, welcome to the forum
🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, how did it come about? Are you on any medication for your diabetes? There is so much information out there, much of it outdated or conflicting. Some sources that our members have found to be reliable and helpful are
Jennifer's Advice and
Maggie Davey's letter, and the excellent book
Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker.
Are you able to test your blood sugar levels? By far and away the best way to get your blood sugars under control is to observe what happens when you eat different things. People have different tolerances for certain foods, so it can be a very personal thing - what is fine for one person may be a complete no-no for another. Have a read of
Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S , where he explains how to test efficiently. There are links to other useful resources in our
Useful links thread, so have a browse

Please ask any questions you may have. You're not expected to know everything from Day 1 - this is a marathon, not a sprint, and you will be learning all the time. The good news is that you can live a perfectly normal, healthy life with diabetes, and many people find that the changes they implement to their diet and activity levels results in them actually feeling happier and healthier than they have for some time, so the rewards are certainly worth working for.
I look forward to hearing more from you
🙂
