Welcome to the forum, Blodwen.

Have a look at "Weight Loss Group" section, where you'll get lots of help and encouragement to loose weight and be more active.

Hi Blodwen, welcome to the forum 🙂 Yes, do join in with the Weight Loss section, you'll be warmly welcomed and it's a real motivation! Anything we can help you with, just let us know, there's usually someone around with a quick response! 🙂

What medication are you on for your diabetes? Stress and illness can make BG control very difficult as both can raise levels unpredictably high. Are you getting any help to tackle te causes of the stress?

Hi Blodwen,
welcome to the forum 🙂
Sorry to hear you have been unwell, hope you are now on the road to recovery.

Welcome to the forum Blodwen 🙂

Thanks copepods

they seem so focused which is great

Welcome to the forum Blodwen.

One thing that helped me when I started my weight loss was to realise pretty quickly that it is a long term thing. I didn't expect to lose masses of weight every week.

I started off at 18 stone at diagnosis (after losing over 1st because of the diabetes) and averaging around 1lb/week loss I am now just over 13.5st. There were failures along the way, but I dusted myself down and just got started again.

Anyway, let me dangle this little carrot in front of your nose. I am now healthier and happier than I have been for decades and I also no longer need any medication to control my diabetes (I was on gliclazide and then metformin). I may have been lucky in that respect, but you may be lucky too!

Good luck,

Andy 🙂

Hi everyone
Thanks for your encouragement, Northener I am on glicazide `40mg twice a day and metformin 500mg once a day. It is great to hear of people who are succesful losing weight and agree that iit is a long term commitment and high 5 to those who have lost weight and those who have reduced their meds or come of them thats inspirational.

In terms of my stress it has been major firstly my son was diagnosed with a serious brain tumour and has had 3xmajor surgery and been in high dependency.
meanwhile I was diagnosed with Cancer and have had 2 bouts of surgery in Jan and five monthe chemotherapy I now have 5 weeks radiotherapy.

So my stress will not settle for a while However I have started yoga with a one to one tuition and feel i need to gain control of my health so that I can move on. Although I have a good prognosis i have researched and discovered that if I do not lose weight and control my diabetes I am increasing my risk of reccurence it is therefore essential that i find the means to do this

Thanks for listening everyone

Goodness Blodwen my thoughts really do go out to you, with all you are coping with {{{Hugs}}}

Regarding the diabetes and weight loss, has your doctor ever suggested Byetta or Victoza? They are injectable and can help with weight loss in addition to helping keep the blood sugar levels under control. I'm not sure whether they would be appropriate though, with your current cancer treatments.

I hope your treatment goes well and that things improve for your son.
