Hello

I just found out I have type two diabetes need some advice I have not had much info from the hospital 🙂

Hi scottishborn, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, and also to hear that you have been left with little practical information. You'll find a lot of good information in our 'Useful Links' thread - I would recommend having a look at Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter and getting a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker in particular.

Have you been put on any medication for your diabetes, and have they given you a blood glucose testing meter? The meter is really the best tool for working out what foods have a good or bad effect on your blood sugar levels, so if you weren't given one then I would recommend asking for one at your next appointment. Here is Diabetes UK's position statement on self-monitoring in case you meet any resistance to the idea!

Please ask any questions you may have - there are loads of friendly, knowledgeable and experienced people here who will do their best to help out! I look forward to hearing more from you 🙂

Hello Donna, warm welcome from me too, sad to say many of us, but not all it has to be said, got little information from the professionals and rely on places like this.

If nothing else, it arms you for the questions to ask on your next appointments.

Donna hi and a warm welcome to the forum

Hi i was diagnosed on the 13 of feb , at the moment being treated with insulin but im awaiting blood results coming back to tell me if im type 1 or 2. ended up in hospital with ketoacidosis (think that the name) thats how i found out im diabetic, was very ill from that and a severe throat infection and needed insulin straight away.

hope you keep well .

Hi Donna, welcome to the boards! Everyone is really friendly so ask lots of questions 🙂

Hi Donna, welcome. This really is the best place to find out information and ask people who are living with the condition every day. Like you I had hardly any info from the doctors but between this site and Gretchen Becker's book, I feel informed enough to manage.
