Hi Gilly. Please don't be too hard on yourself - it sounds as though you've had a rough ride recently. There is an awful lot there for you to come to terms with, so it's understandable that you feel the way you do. Can you talk to your GP or diabetic nurse just to share the way you feel with someone? Try and take one day at a time in the meantime and set yourself small goals. You need time to grieve not just for the loss of your brother, but also for your father as he now needs full time care and I know only too well how that feels. I'm glad you posted on here though and hope you find some comfort and support from us. In the meantime, try not to be so hard on yourself and take good care. Katie

Hi Gilly, I'm sorry to hear about your brother and father, it sounds like you've had a great deal to cope with so it's understandable that you've not been able to give a great deal of attention to your diabetes. Try to think in terms of small steps - you don't need to change everything at once. It would be useful if you start recording what you are eating for a couple of weeks, noting everything you have and also noting the carb content wherever possible. This will give you a good idea of possible areas that you might be able to improve on, perhaps by substituting some of the things with more diabetes-friendly items. Set yourself small goals. If you are able to exercise, then try and do something each day - a walk in the park or something similar - it will really help your blood sugar levels.

Anything you need to know, please ask and we will be happy to help where we can 🙂

Thanks for the support, will try and take things one day at a time small steps but hopefully will get back on track perhaps this is what I need some help and support from people who understand. good to know your out there glad I have found you. Will start and see how I go will report back soon and let you know. how I am doing

thanks
Gilly

I'll look forward to hearing from you Gilly 🙂 It helps a great deal to know that you can share things with people who can empathise.

Hi Again

Not doing bad lost 3lb last couple of weeks, still having good days and bad days but getting there slowly. I have been writing down what I eat and that is helping to get me back on track, excercise started but very slow at the moment. Have had a really bad day today and not eaten very well sugar level 8.5 .......have made appointment to see diabetic nurse next week so will have a good chat to her about everything. I am taking each day as it comes. Will keep you informed of progress. Thanks for your support.

Hi Gilly, I hope that the good days outnumber the bad by an increasing amount from now on 🙂 Well done on the weight loss, and don't beat yourself up about the odd day when things slip a little, you're only human and it will take time. Hope your appointment goes well when it comes around, and keep up the good work! 🙂

As Northerner said, small steps.
You can't eat a meal in one mouthful, you have to take bite size pieces.
I find it is better not to plan anything too exacting, as failure is worse than not planning. Just set yourself tasks you can do easily at first, and don't beat yourself up if things don't get done.
Don't ask too much of yourself.

Kelly.
