Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello, I have been a diabetic since 1997, type 2 controlled (allegedly) with Insulin and Metformin. Also have the other bonus conditions of high bloodm pressure and cholesterol.

This the first forum I have joined to speak to other people battling diabetes which sounds ridiculous. Its probably because I'm not really techy and have just got use to facebook. Also hoping to go to a support group meeting locally.

I am and have been battling with my weight since I started on Insulin, back to weight watchers again but the weight is not shifting. Just wondered if anyone has any tips/ diets that have worked for them.

Just been discharged from being managed at Kingston Hospital Diabetes unit out into the community which I find a little worrying as my GP can't tell where or when I am going to be seen. Decided I am going to have to manage myself where possible as opposed to being at the mercy of the GP's receptionist.

I am married with a son who is 9 years old, he has Aspergers Syndrome which is an autistic spectrum disorder. He is the light of our lives and a continual challenge. One of my interests is learning about Autisim and how best to parent him.

Cheers

Jacque Carey🙂

Hi Jaque, welcome to the forum 🙂 I think (hope) you'll find the forum a lot easier to use than Facebook - I have used the Diabetes UK page there, and whilst it is friendly it is more like one long conversation where a question you ask can quickly become lost amongst the general chat. Here you can start your own conversations and search for past topics that may be relevant to what you want to know - nothing gets lost in the ether! If you ever have any problems with using the forum, just ask and someone is bound to be able to help you out 🙂

It sounds like you have a new determination to get things under control, and it's great that you have chosen to join here. There are lots of lovely, friendly and well-informed people with all sorts of experience who will be happy to help you out!

Although you have been diagnosed a while, it might be worth looking at some of our Useful links thread, as there may be things in there that have been overlooked in your treatment and diabetes management over the years. And although you are not newly-diagnosed it might be worth taking a 'refresher' and getting hold of a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker - highly recommended by our Type 2 members.

Do you test your blood sugars? Do you know what your last HbA1c was? You might be interested in joining in on our Weight Loss section for some mutual support and tips.

Please ask anything - nothing is considered 'silly', and you're not expected to know everything - or just have a laugh or a rant, both perfectly acceptable! 🙂

I look forward to eharing more from you 🙂

Welcome to the forums Jacque 🙂

Hi jacque. Welcome 🙂

Can't help with weight loss tips infortunately but wish you well in your efforts.🙂

I've read a little about autism and aspergers and it must be challenging but rewarding. Many of history's geniuses have been thought to be on the autistic spectrum.🙂

Yes challenging is a good word tom describe my son, again because he is so bright he can argue for England, but I would'nt change him for the world.

Amazing what we take for granted, as far as empathy and being able to understand subtle body language, etc.

He must see a lot of it as illogical nonsense. Why would he not argue !!:D
