Well it's nice to be a newbie at something🙂
Diagnosed at the end of Sept 2010 with Type 2. Spotted at annual blood test.
It's never a good thing when the GP rings you at home the day after a blood test😱
First fasting test 17ish so put on Metformin 850 twice a day, then first HbA1c at 12.7 I have had Pancreatitis so GP thought I would be Type 1 but so far so good with staying as I am.
Now the controversial bit!!
I went to see Professor Charles Clark and he suggested a virtually carb free diet. It is not for everyone and is VERY strict, but my results after 4 weeks are as follows:
Second HbA1c test (5 weeks after first one) 7.1
Cholesterol down to 3
Blood pressure down to 120/65
And I have lost over 1 stone in weight with 4 inches from my waist.
My GP is very happy with results and said that he expected the Metformin to help a little but then have to give me extra/additional tablets or maybe insulin. So I am one very happy bunny 🙂
If anyone is interested then Charles Clark's book is "The Diabetic Revolution" it is very clear and easy to read.
I am coming to the Oxford meeting on Saturday and look forward to meeting some forum members then.
