Hello to all my name is Glenn and i am a Diabetic !Terrified of limb loss and early death. Thats what i have alwys heard from other people, However the Hospital are much more positive. (still worried though)

Hi Glenn and a warm welcome to the forum, its only natural your going to worry about such things as you mentioned, but well controlled diabetes will usually mean you can avoid these things.x

Welcome to the forum Glenn! 🙂

Hi Glenn. It used to be that diabetics might live a few years less than normal but this has been eliminated in the past 20 years or so. As steffie says, there's no reason why you shouldn't live a normal, healthy life. In fact, you may live a lot longer with the reletively healthy diet and lifestyle we're encouraged to follow.
As for limb loss, you'll have to go out of your way to be very rebellious before that becomes an issue.

Welcome btw. 🙂

Rob

Welcome to the club Glenn. They really are a great lot on here and if you have any questions ask away and someone will pop up and answer you - after a few drinks they aren't aways coherent, but they are very friendly....!

Glen I was diagnosed T1 6 months ago and found this forum a couple of months ago. I've learnt a hell of a lot more reading the older threads and asking questions on this site than I had in the first few months. Previously I'd surf the net and usually end up scaring myself, or I'd find a book to read but not have the concentration to read and understand. At least on here you can get feedback from people who have been there and done it. There seems a good mix between those new to diabetes like myself and the "resident" oldies which gives a good range of opinion and experience.

Hi Glen, welcome to the forum. How long have you been diabetic? What regime are you on? As others have said if your control is good you should not get complications. We all have panicy days, this place is great for getting support from people who understand.

Hi Glen welcome to the forum. Try not to worry to much, I have had type 1 for 21 years, had a baby at 42 and still have my eyesight and all my fingers and toes! Trying to get good control is the best medicine, my control is so much better now because I went on a carb counting course. Take care best wishes Sheena:D

Hi Glenn welcome to the forum!

I've had type 1 for almost 20 years and have no complications at all. It's easy to read all the horror stories - but remember, as long as you do what you need to to keep decent numbers, the chances of this are minimal 🙂
