Hi Emma, welcome to the forum 🙂 Have you been diagnosed long? How are things going? Please feel free to post any questions you may have - nothing is regarded as 'silly'!

Hello,
Well i'm type 1 and have been for nearly 2 years now. Bit of a shock at first, as my daughter was only 6months old.
My Doctor recommended i came on here to chat and gain more support as my hba1c came back really high today 10% when previously it's been 7.5% and reasonably well managed :(
Are you type 1 also?
Emma

What a great doctor! He's right - it has helped many, many people over the past couple of years and made a lot of friends. It's good to just chat with people who 'get it' and share experiences. I'm Type 1 too, diagnosed just over two years ago. Do you know why your HbA1c has gone so high? What sort of insulin are you on, we might be able to make some suggestions to help you bring it down to better levels. 🙂

I'm really grateful for your support 🙂
It's my own fault, i've had such good control in the past and i've had a few emotional problems lately and unfortunately i've let myself go!
My b/s have been in double figures for a few months. I've been snacking and not giving myself enough insulin for it. I've just been a bit down feeling sorry for myself i guess... resenting the fact i'm diabetic i suppose.
I caught my daughter trying to put a pen in her tummy the other day, she's copying what her mummy does :(
I'm on novarapid insulin 3 times in the day and lantus 22hr at night time.

Hey, it hits us all from time to time, so don't beat yourself up over it. The main thing is that you're trying to get back to those good levels again, so just take it a day at a time right now. I'm on the same insulin as you. Have you done any kind of diabetes education course to learn carb counting, like DAFNE? I've also found that Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults by Ragnar Hanas is a really useful reference for anything I'm unsure of so I'd recommend getting a copy if you don't already have one.

Goodness! You do have to be careful what the little ones pick up on don't you?

Have a good browse around and don't be afraid to experiment - one of the moderator team will be able to help out if you make any mistakes. I look forward to hearing more from you. 🙂

Hi emma welcome to the site 🙂 I've had type 1 for almost 20 years.

As Northe says, the most important thing is that you want to get your levels back into range again 🙂 DAFNE (or similar) courses are great for learning to carb count or to motivate you back into being more focused.

Stick around and ask questions - we're quite good at giving motivational help! 🙂

Welcome to the forum Emma 🙂

Hi Emma. Welcome from me. 🙂

Resenting it is perfectly normal. Hope you can get yourself back on track. Having the forum to share your low times (and highs) makes it so much easier to bear.

Rob
