Hi Gail, thanks for the welcome and kind words and well done on the weight loss, I too believe that positivity is contagious so keep the vibe going

HI @Sean64, welcome to the forum, as type 2 I have no idea how diabetes impacts on type 3c but there are quite a few on here who should be able to talk to you about the ups and downs. Good luck in recovering and managing all your issues hopefully improved health will make the diabetes management straigthforward.

Hi Sean and welcome from me too.

How do you manage your Type 3c? Are you on insulin yet and if so, which one(s) and do you use Creon to help with digestion?

Well done on tackling your addictions and good luck with that going forward. Probably not on the same level but I was/am a sugar addict pre diagnosis, so I understand the challenges and although I can't totally give it up because I need jelly babies to treat hypos from time to time, I had mostly conquered the problem for the last 6 years but recent life events have caused me to start comfort eating again and I really have to get a grip and get back on the wagon. Exercise helps me a lot but motivating myself to do it regularly is the hard bit.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello and ask a bit about your current diabetes management regime as Type 3c is a broad category with a spectrum of treatments from people using dietary measures to a full insulin regime and Creon, with various combinations of oral meds and insulin in between. I am guessing that since you have CGM you may be on some form of insulin therapy.

Hi Barbara, thanks for the welcome and for sharing, I think addiction comes in many forms, has little to do with your 'drug of choice' and a lot to do with thought processes. I was diagnosed Type 2 in 2018 and, as my pancreatic function deteriorated, moved to Type 3c in 2023, I take oral Metformin, insulin injection 4x daily and Creon 9x daily. Chronic Pancreatitis means Chronic pain but now that I don't drink this is largely manageable. Stay strong, your Jelly Babies come guilt free

Welcome to the forum @Sean64

Congrats on walking the path of recovery - that shows real grit, determination, and spirit. And it’s a walk to keep on walking every day - a new day won step by step.

We have a few Type 3cs here of various flavours (pancreatitis with or without necrotising… surgery… pancreatic cancer survivors…) so you are in good company.

Are there any frustrations or struggles that you are facing at the moment that prompted you to join? Or were you just looking for folks to share the path who ‘get it’? 🙂

Hi Mike thanks for the welcome, sometimes being diabetic can be a lonely place but I was always aware that a whole community existed and thought it was time to finally reach out. Just scrolling through comments has already provided helpful tips and advice. I suppose I'm curious as to long term prognosis for my particular condition but am aware that, particularly for Type 3c, this can be dependent on the individuals personal circumstances.

Hello to you, @Sean64, and Welcome to the Forum.

I, perhaps, sit at one extreme of the T3c community - as someone who had to surrender my panc'y to defeat Pancreatic Cancer (PC) and now needing Multiple Daily Insulin (MDI). I'm glad you've reached out. Yes, being diabetic can be a lonely place and T3c can worsen that loneliness because we are such a tiny proportion of those with diabetes; yet we embrace the full spectrum of diabetes treatments for this unique T3c diagnosis. As, @rebrascora said, some only on oral meds, some on basal insulin only and some on full MDI or with a pump.

I was curious about my long term diagnosis, originally not so much for the diabetes aspect, but because the survival rate from PC was very poor. 5+ years on I barely ever think about the PC risk and nowadays I'm much more focused on my Diabetes and it's long term prognosis. As you say, I think my prognosis is very much dependent on my personal circumstances, in so many ways - be that medical, family support as I close in on my dotage, financial, cognitive decline ...... The permutations are pretty well unlimited.

Anyway, there are several Forum members with the T3c diagnosis as a result of pancreatic damage and managing their diabetes against a background of a partially functioning pancreas. I'm sure they are better equipped to identify with your diabetic circumstances. Do keep posting, now you've reached out; I'm sure you have D management experiences that you can share and thus help others, as well as picking up snippets from others that possibly are of help to you
