I'm Leanne from Ipswich, Suffolk. I'm 44 and have had type one diabetes since I was 17. I struggle to make friends as alot of people don't understand diabetes. Anyone local on here.

Hi and welcome from me too.

I am a long way from Suffolk I am afraid but find talking about diabetes on this forum and comparing notes with others in the same boat extremely helpful. Diabetes can be incredibly isolating as it affects so much of our lives and it is a bit relentless, so being able to come here and share thoughts and feelings and ideas and tips and have a good moan when we have had one of those days when nothing makes sense despite our best efforts, or blow our own trumpet when we pulled off a particularly tricky insulin dose for a special meal and kept out levels on the straight and narrow against the odds. Hope you get those days too. I know they are probably mostly flukes based on educated guessing but still feels like a triumph!

Anyway, would you like to tell us a bit about yourself and how you manage your diabetes (MDI or a pump and which insulins) and perhaps a bit about your life and interests?

Look forward to getting to know you better.

Welcome to the forum @lea80

We are fairly geographically diverse on here, but occasionally someone will get the itch for a face-to-face meet up somewhere and folks will work out somewhere convenient for as many people as possible.

We’ve had get-togethers in London, Scotland, the South West, the West Country, the Midlands, and the North.

It’s always fun to meet face to face, put actual faces to usernames/avatars and the conversation generally flows freely!

We’ve not had anything like so many since the Pandemic, but we may try to arrange some more in the future if there’s the demand 🙂
