Hi my name is sue ,I've recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I'm struggling with my glucose levels and have been for at least a month now
Thank you I'm trying, I'm struggling with food???cannot get my head around the food, I'm sure it will just slot into placeSorry to hear that @retiro 2017 That must have been stressful and frightening. I’m glad to hear you’re on the mend. 11.6 blood sugar is much better. Hopefully that will continue to improve.
What is the problem with what to eat?Thank you I'm trying, I'm struggling with food???cannot get my head around the food, I'm sure it will just slot into place
Perhaps this link may give you some ideas for what to eat, there is some good explanation and meal plans to suit various tastes and budget, it is a low carb approach which many have found successful. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/Thank you I'm trying, I'm struggling with food???cannot get my head around the food, I'm sure it will just slot into place
There is no need to eat foods you don't like but it may be an opportunity to try things by cooking or having them in different ways.Drummer ,I'm a very fussy with my foods ,I love my fruit , Greek yoghurt, chicken ,and some veg but don't seam to be able to get my head around recipes , and trying new thing's hopefully now I've joined this group I'll try different meals you never know I might just like some lol thanks for your reply x
Hi I haven't been given anything when I was diagnosed no advice, no help ,it's difficult living in Spain, the language barrier ,and there's no support system for you no diabetic nurse all we get is a blood test every 3 months!!!unless problems in-between bloods ,so just put on metformin 2000 mg a day and get on with it basicallyHi and welcome.
Do you know what your HbA1c result was? This is the blood test used to diagnose and keep track of your diabetes and will usually be a number in excess of 47mmols/mol.
Have you ben given any medication to help you manage your diabetes and if so, what?
What if any dietary advice have you been given?
It sounds like you are testing with a home BG meter, is that correct? If so, when are you testing and what sort of readings are you getting?
Sorry for all the questions, but the more info you can give us, the better we can advise and support you.
I would just like to add that whilst a diabetes diagnosis is overwhelming and scary, for many of us, it has been the gateway or kick up the pants 🙄 we needed to improve our diet and lifestyle and weight and become healthier ,rather than the opposite, so whilst it takes a bit of effort to manage it, it can actually have a positive rather than a negative outcome. I fully expect to live longer and have a better quality of life as a result of changing my diet and lifestyle and I would not have done that without my diabetes diagnosis.
