Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi everyone. Just joined. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in July 2023. Still getting my head round it all, sometimes struggle with thoughtz/feelings about having diabetes. Always googling information about it all.

Welcome @chlolin 🙂 It does take a while to get used to Type 1. I try not to dwell on it too much and just focus on each day. Is there anything in particular you’re googling? Or anything you’d like help with, or just a chat about?

My hair got really really thin just as I was diagnosed, was told this is one of the symptoms. Constantly googling things that will help thicken it up, also the constant tiredness...Will this ever leave. Can afternoon nap near enough everyday, and still could just fall asleep so easily I'm that tired all the time

Question - has anyone mentioned your thyroid? (Hair loss is a typical side effect of hypothyroidism and Type 1 diabetes and hypothyroidism both being auto immune conditions frequently go hand in hand)

I second the thyroid possibility @chlolin Also, what are your blood sugars like? High blood sugar can cause tiredness. Finally, there are other causes like anaemia, coeliac, etc, so do speak to your GP if the tiredness persists.

Thyroid hasn't been mentioned or checked for. Thank you. I will contact my GP if the tiredness continues. Blood sugars are usually okay, and at a good level majority of the time.

Welcome to the forum @chlolin

Sorry to hear about the fatigue you’ve been facing. That shouldn’t be a routine part of living with T1, especially if your BGs are relatively close the the recommended ranges a lot of the time (running high or erratic BG can be punishingly tiring).

Hope you are able to find ways to get a bit of energy back. Are you stressed? How are you sleeping? Are you eating well? All pretty obvious things… but worth bearing in mind 🙂
