Hi Inka I'm on 2x500mg Metformin daily. I were also on Victoza until it ran out in February. They did try me on Alogliptin but had a reaction and took me off it. Last month March I were told they would try me on insulin Humulin 1 but still awaiting prescription. Iv been told by my diabetes nurse I hope to be put on Mounjaro soon. I'm seeing her Monday next so we will see.

Are you also following a particular dietary regime to help manage your glucose levels as if you are using a low carb approach you may need to be more careful once you start insulin. I hope you will be given plenty of advise about how many carbs you should have for whatever insulin type and dose you are prescribed.

I'm trying to watch the carbs but if I'm honest finding it difficult to get satisfactory numbers like I were when my Victoza ceased to be available. As you say I would have to be careful if I start on insulin. I'm hoping mounjaro is going to be prescribed as they the NHS have said it will be. Will wait and see

In the meantime have a look at this link to see if you can trim a few more carbs off your meals as that will help with your blood glucose levels.
Are you testing 2 hours after meals so you could see what foods are too carb heavy, you would be aiming at no more than a 2-3mmol/l increase from before you eat or no more than 8-8.5 after 2 hours.
Diet can be more powerful than meds for some.

I don’t know anything about Mounjaro but the insulin will help if your blood sugar is high.

Quite right.

@Wonnie, which carbs figure in your diet in a typical week? Are you vegetarian or vegan? Are you getting enough protein (meat, fish, eggs, dairy, lentils, beans, etc )?

Maybe a few simple adjustments will help.

Here is one GP's diet sheet for his T2D patients. Many of them go into remission. How does your diet compare?

Welcome to the forum @Wonnie

Sorry to hear the meds that were working for you aren’t available any more :(

Mounjaro is in the class of medications that has been plagued by supply problems for a while. It is supposed to be available, but I suspect the ongoing shortages of other GLP receptor agonists is likely to have an overspill effect unfortunately.

It does seem to be taking an interminable time for them to get these medications reliably available again :(

You can read updates about the shortages here:

Well it's two months now that Victoza became unavailable to me and Iv been managing on two 500mg Metformin daily which I have always always been prescribed. This has had a detrimental affect on my blood glucose but I'm pleased to say Iv got an appointment on Monday 22 with diabetes nurse for Mounjaro. Because I have reduced kidney function some alternative prescriptions are not suitable ie more Metformin.

Did you find anything useful in the Freshwell link that could help you rather than relying on increased medication.
