Hi I’m Lissy and have just joined
I’m type 2 since 2020 and still struggling with stopping hypo’s and losing weight .Any advice on what I can do?

Welcome @Lissy14 🙂 What medication are you on for the diabetes? When you mention “struggling with losing weight”, do you mean you’re losing weight and you don’t want to, or do you mean you do want to lose weight but are finding it hard to?

Hi Lissy and welcome from me too.

If you can tell us a bit more about how you manage your diabetes, we might be able to help you with the issues you are struggling with. It sounds like you are on quite strong meds if you are suffering from hypos. Can you tell us exactly which meds they are.
How did your diagnosis come about? Were you symptomatic and if so which symptoms or was it just picked up through a routine blood test?
Do you know what your most recent HbA1c result is?
Have you made any dietary changes and as @Inka asks are you looking to lose or gain weight as it isn't clear from your first post. We have some underweight diabetics as well as some overweight, so it's not always obvious.

I am on Metformin and Glicazide and although my diabetes nurse knows about this she just tells me to persevere! I want to lose weight and finding it hard to get past the4kg loss when I need to lose more

What was your last HbA1C @Lissy14 ? If you’re having frequent hypos maybe your Gliclazide needs reducing?

There are a number of people here trying to lose weight. Some have lost massive amounts of weight, so don’t be disheartened. Are you following a low calorie diet or another kind of diet?

My last one was 82so will take that suggestion to my nurse
I’m on a low carb diet so I’m beginning to wonder if that doesn’t help my hypos?

Low carb doesn't really mesh with Gliclazide, and there is a real danger of hypos as you are finding.

If you don’t eat enough carbs for the Gliclazide, you’ll get hypos. You either need to eat more carbs or see if your Gliclazide can be reduced, allowing you to eat less carbs. It’s a case of finding what works for you, both meds-wise and diet-wise.

Have made an appointment to see my nurse to discuss my way forward have also upped my carb intake in the meantime
It would be a good idea if you kept a food diary with an estimate of the carbs you are having for the days until your appointment as that would give some information for her and you to work from.

If you were enjoying the low carb menu it does sound like it would be helpful to ask your nurse about reducing glic to balance with your preferred carb intake - that may possibly restart your weight loss?
