Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi everyone
I was diagnosed as type 2 in early October by chance following a blood test for an unrelated complaint. It was a complete shock as I had not been displaying any typical symptoms. My HBA1C was 75, I was put on 1 x 500mg of metformin straight away as I am not overweight, do not smoke and only drink alcohol occasionally. However my dad, 2 brothers and a niece have type 2 diabetes. Three weeks later it was down to 66 but my tablets were increased to twice a day.
I’m still getting my head around the diagnosis and this new way of life. I have lost 8lbs since October.

Great on the weight loss, metformin will help but dietary changes are equally if not more important. A test after three weeks will still be testing most of the period of time as the first test so actually showed a good improvement.
Ideas have changed about the effectiveness of adopting a low carb dietary regime in managing to reduce blood glucose so if your relatives have been diagnosed some time they may still be having more carbs than is helpful.

If you don't need to lose weight then making sure you have plenty of protein and healthy fats to make up for the reduction in carbs.
As you say it has to become a new way of life which is why your chosen dietary regime has to be enjoyable and a new way of eating long term.
