Good morning,

My name is Duane, I’m 61 and have recently been diagnosed has having type 2. I believe that after 6 bouts of pancreatitis and eventually having my gall bladder removed, that my pancreas isn’t 100% effective. I’m taking Metformin and Alogliptin to combat the blood sugar levels.
Eating “healthy” is a struggle for me as I’m not a great vegetable or salad person. The other thing is that my fluid intake is very poor and my memory seems to be failing me too.
I look forward to chatting and gaining more information about improving my lifestyle and living with diabetes.

Welcome to the forum @Duane62

If your diabetes is connected to damage to your pancreas following pancreatitis then I think it is possibly Type 3c rather than Type 2?

This isn’t a classification that all General Practitioners are so familiar with though, so you may need to be quite persistent to get your diabetes type reviewed and perhaps a referral to more specialist care.

@eggyg @soupdragon and I think @zippyjojo have all trodden that path before you - along with several others here.

Thank you for the welcome. There was something that came to mind about possibly having T3c, would the symptoms be immediate after the pancreatitis or a build up over time? Also when I lost my gall bladder, for 2 years I suffered with extremely loose stools, I’m currently taking Colestyramine for this.

Is that similar to Creon? Many of our 3cs need to take Creon (also produced in the pancreas) because the damage leaves them enzyme deficient.

There’s an overview of type 3c here if it helps?

No, Coleystyramine is a bile acid sequestration rather than a Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Treatment focused for digestive enzymes replacement. Most of us on Creon after a Whipple are also prescribed Omneprazole to help against Acid Indigestion and reflux. I guess there could be some connectivity.

I had about 2 years on Creon which didn’t help with my bowel issue after having my gall bladder removed. I believe that Colestyramine is classed as a sequestrate

I am also on Omeprazole twice a day
