Good afternoon, Diagnosed a week ago, am on Metformin x1 a day. Have cut carbs and sugar and daily walks. However, my vision seems a bit all-over- the place when reading - is this normal? Someone once told me such changes were indicators of high sugar levels?

Problems with vision can occur as a result of cutting carbs too quickly as your eyes have been used to a sugary environment but as your blood glucose drops from diet and or meds the environment in the eye changes back to more normal salty to the shape of the eyeball changes, for most people this is only temporary but can last a few weeks.
Reducing blood glucose gradually over a few weeks is often better for eyes and nerves.
Some people find a pair of cheap reading glasses help but if you are concerned get them checked by your optician but they should not suggest new glasses when newly diagnosed.

Thank you so much, that's reassuring...🙂

Yes.
The lens changes shape due to the high blood sugar.

It should go back to normal when levels are stable.

Hope your vision settles back down soon @DocMus - it can be a disconcerting experience for sure!

Well done on the changes you have made so far. Hope you get some positive feedback at your next HbA1c check. 🙂
