Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi I’m new 16 month diagnosis since type 1, from the Highlands. Like to keep active. Managed to keep cycling at club level but not yet managed running. On a libre which is a godsend.

Welcome to the forum @Highlander1 . I am pleased that you have found us, and hope that you find the forum as useful as I do. Loads of experience to tap into.

If you are happy to do so it can be helpful to know what insulin(s) you are using.
What have you found the Libre most helpful for?

What is it that is preventing you from getting back to running. There are websites that help with managing different sports for those with T1. http://www.runsweet.com/
That may be helpful.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi and welcome from me too.

Libre is a game changer. I find the trend arrows really helpful and the Time in Range facility.

Great that you are able to continue cycling at club level. Hope you can get back to running again soon.

Have you been offered an in depth education course like DAFNE (Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating) or whatever your local equivalent is. It is so much more than the carb counting course it's name suggests and is about keeping yourself safe with insulin in all manner of everyday situations. I know Covid has impacted the availability of such courses and obviously you have been diagnosed during the pandemic which I imagine will have been challenging as the support has not been as comprehensive for many people as it would normally be. If you haven't yet been offered such a course, it is worth asking as they are starting up again, some online and some in person. I would strongly recommend doing it face to face if you get the chance because just spending a week with other Type 1 diabetics and learning from each other is one of the major benefits of the course. There is an online course called BERT1E which is similar and you can refer yourself onto if there isn't anything available locally in your area just yet.

Is there anything particular that brings you to the forum at this time? ie a particular difficulty with managing levels or just wanting to compare notes with others who face the same challenges?
I have learned a massive amount from the kind people here over the last 3.5 years since diagnosis, so I am certain that you will find it beneficial too. Feel free to ask any questions. There will almost always be at least one person who has some experience of the subject to offer their take on it.

Welcome to the forum @Highlander1

Which insulins have you started on? And how are you finding them?

Great that you’ve been able to keep up the cycling - the Libre’s ability to check ‘on the go’ as many times as you like is a great help for sports and activity isn’t it!
