Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi there my name is Rob and I have been a type 1 diabetic for 46 years and have recently just changed over my insulins to novorapid and Lantus I’ve been on the libre 2 sensors about a year which seem to be working great

Hi @Ace50 and welcome to the forum. Great to have your experience on here to tap into.
What prompted your change of insulin?
Good to hear you have the libre. How has that been of help to you? So good for identifying patterns and making changes to plans.
I look forward to hearing more from you.

Well I use to self mix my insulins before and have done so for a very long time but decided with the help of my diabetic doctor to give the new insulin a go think I was just worried about the change but to be honest with you it’s the best thing I’ve ever done I’ve had no more hypos being able to keep an eye on my diabetes without worrying about my bloods dropping to low and the sensors have been a god send great for alerting me when I’m going high or low not that it happens very rarely now but all is good and my diabetes is the best it’s ever been

Ooh, interesting @Ace50 ! What insulin were you using when you mixed your own? Were you on a regular insulin like Actrapid? What basal?

Yes I was using Actrapid and Insultard been using them for over 20 years problem was my hypos were really bad sometimes required ambulance to be called but now all is good no more of that for me thank you

What a relief for you @Ace50 ! I’m so glad your insulins change has helped you so much 🙂

Yes I was using Actrapid and Insultard been using them for over 20 years
I also used those for a long time and I agree the next generation of insulins are much better. Much more predictable and easier to handle.

Yes I must admit I totally agree with you now that I’ve been on them for nearly a year such a big difference compared to my old insulin

Hi and welcome from me too.

Great to have your extensive experience added to the forum. It must be really difficult to change from what you know and trust, especially when it has kept you alive for so many years, Wonderful to read that you are getting on so well with the new insulins now you have taken the plunge and yes Libre is a game changer for many of us..... provided you can keep them in place and they work reliably 🙄 ..... I see from your other post that you have been having problems with the sensors dropping off shortly after application. Hopefully with the tips on that thread you will have more success soon. Very frustrating when you experience failures with what is an otherwise great bit of kit.

Hope you find the forum as much of a fountain of knowledge as I have over the past 3.5 years. Sharing experiences with other people facing the same challenges is incredibly helpful in enabling you to find what works best for you as an individual. Doctors and nurses can tell you how to do things by the text book, but reality can be quite different, so reading practical tips from other Type 1s can be really interesting and learning that there is a huge range of "normal" gives you a better perspective on it all.
Wishing you continued success with your new insulin regime.

Brings back memories, was using those 2 also.

Changed to novo & lantus then stuck with them till made switch to pump, now just using 1 insulin that's fiasp.

Consider moving to pump as that will also help with hypo's as you have more flexibility with basal dose, but low alarm on libre 2 will help enormously.
