I was diagnosed with type 2 (61 hbac1) mid July this year. Totally shocked and upset by this. I’ve been in the pre diabetic range for many years and never really thought about it and nothing was mentioned during annual blood tests. I was just under a stone overweight and happily shovelled cakes and sweets daily so this probably helped me En route to diabetes.
I also have ulcerative colitis which is the polar opposite, diet wise, to diabetes.
I came upon this forum whilst visiting the Diabetes UK website. Without any doubt this forum has helped me immensely. Didn’t realise about carbs turning into glucose etc. With the dietary constraints of colitis I can’t go totally low carb but I can make adjustments and, of course, cut out cakes, sweets etc. Everyone on the forum are so helpful, kind and humorous and stopped me thinking I was the worlds biggest idiot and failure.
just had my 3 monthly blood test which has come back as 47 ! I’ve lost a stone in weight. I know it’s not brilliant but it is an improvement and just under the diabetic range. I couldn’t have done it without this forum and I’m so very grateful.
