Welcome to the forum.
If you say a bit more about your situation, I know you say you are on insulin but whether you are Type 1 or Type 2 on insulin plus any other meds will determine what dietary regime might suit you. What insulins, amount and when you take it will all be relevant to any advice people may give. Also what was your HbA1C that led to your diagnosis.

I'm sure some Type 1 folk will come along to offer some comments
@everydayupsanddowns can this be moved to it's own thread otherwise it may get missed.

Which makes sense. The recommended regime is a basal/bolus one, with one or two injections a day of a long acting insulin, and one per meal (roughly) of a fast acting one. Humulin m3 is a mixed insulin so less flexible (you can't vary the fast acting bits to match what and when you want to eat).

The flexibility comes at the cost of complexity (and more injections), but most of us think it's more than worth it.

Welcome to the forum @scatty17

Sorry to hear you’ve had a bit of a rough start to your diabetes career. Do you know what your levels are roughly running at?

Nausea shouldn’t be a common thing with T1, and it can be a sign of nastily high BG, so worth keeping an eye on.

Hope the change of insulins to a more flexible regime helps.

There’s loads of useful info in the ‘learning zone‘ (link in the main menu) or just keep asking questions here 🙂

Hi @scatty17 - welcome to the forum. A mixed insulin isn’t the best and a bolus/basal routine of two different types of insulin will allow you to change the amount of insulin to fit the carbs you are eating as opposed to the other way round

Welcome @scatty17 🙂 A change of insulin and learning to carb count (adjust your mealtime insulin to cover the carbs you’re about to eat) will work wonders.

I’m a bit concerned that you say you feel sick. How is your blood sugar? Are you testing for ketones?

Basically, once you’ve got the right insulins, you’ll be able to eat a pretty normal diet 🙂

I agree with @Inka - nausea is a symptom I get when my blood glucose is far too high and that I have ketones.

hya update lol
phone call with dietician was great she had already spoken with my diabetic nurse before call and I've to get the insulin regime change ie nor on the mix but the basal one and then take insulin when eating. this will be a lot better for my lifestyle etc. and I'm not panicking anymore because I have a good idea about carbs etc now. merry Christmas everyone and keep safe xx

That’s great that your now on basal/bolus insulin routine as opposed to mixed insulin!

Great news that the dietician was supportive and got your insulin regime changed. Do you know which insulins you will be getting?
