Hi
I've had acute pancreatitis and have been in hospital for 11 months! Hadn't even heard of pancreatitis until I got in, before I knew what was going on I was in an induced coma. It's been a long journey but I'm nearly there. Hoping to get home before the 1 year anniversary and get to know my 8 month old daughter.
Anyway, as I've got no pancreas now, I have a Type 1 Diabetes. I've had an insulin drip for the last few months and just started my own injections.
Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself. Would be great to hear from you, especially anyone who's also had pancreatitis.

Hi Abalcombe, welcome to the forum 🙂 Goodness, what a time you have had! 😱 We do have some members who have had their pancreas removed for various reasons, so hopefully they will be along to help with any questions related to that. What insulin regime are you on? I know from reading others' experiences that it can be particularly difficult maintaining good levels after such an op. Has an insulin pump been suggested for you? If not, it may be worth investigating 🙂

I hope that you are well enough to return home very soon, and look forward to hearing more from you 🙂

Welcome to the forum Abalcombe 🙂

Sorry to hear what an ordeal you've been through - I'm guessing your baby girl must have been delivered in the midst of all this, how on earth have you coped? Anyway, I wish you all the best for your continued recovery and hope you're soon home and enjoying being a Mum! 🙂

I agree with Northerner that you sound like an ideal candidate for an insulin pump. However, while you are learning all the niceties of managing type 1, do consider getting the Ragnar Hanas book "Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young People" which is a truly brilliant resource for people with type 1 of all ages!

P.S. I have assumed you are a lady, but there is nothing in your name or post to make me think that, so if you are in fact a bloke, then please read the above as "hope you're soon home enjoying being a Dad"!!!!! 😉

Hi
Thanks for the replies, sorry forgot to say I'm a bloke!
My regime is pretty erratic at the moment as for months I was being fed artificially. Am still on this but also eating myself so I have a base insulin intravenously all the time and inject myself based on what I'm eating, pretty erratic at the moment!

Jeez youve been through alot!- welcome from me- glad youve found us[ but sorry you have to be here]

Hello and welcome, hope you can get home soon to catch up for lost time with your daughter, best of luck..

Wowee. What a tough time you've had. Welcome to the forum Abalcombe. Hope you're able to be discharged soon.😱🙂

Welcome to the boards, Abalcombe, and sorry you have to be here.

Getting to know your daughter and beginning life without a pancreas is quite a combination. There are people here who can help with both challenges, so ask away.

An insulin pump may be the answer, but don't feel you have to go that way, as many people, including me, manage their type 1 diabetes with insulin injections.

Welcome abalcombe, sorry to hear about your ordeal and hope you all the luck in your recovery, i would not be able to cope if i didnt have my kids around me everyday.

The people on this forum are very helpful and supportive. They have been here for me whether it was asking for advice on something or just for someone to talk to when feeling a little out there.

Pancreas

Thanks for all your kind messages of support. I'm due to go home on Sunday just for a couple of hours which I'm very excited ( and a little nervous about)
I would like to speak to someone who has had experience of a drain (drains my pancreatic juice as no pancreas!) how is the best way to do this on the site thanks Andrew
