Hi all! Thought I'd sign up...seen the TV ad for recipes so thought I'd give it a go! Been diagnosed with T2 since about 2002...my BMs are pretty good but, alas, my weight isn't. I'm on Metformin 500mg x4 a day and Lantus Glargine x 1 daily. I've been asked if I'd like to try a new medication - can't remember the bloomin' name of it now - but the sugar is removed from the body via the urine. I'd really like to give it a go but my only worry is one of the side effects.....frequent UTIs. As I get more than my fair share of these already I'd welcome anyone's experience of taking the drug.....XX

Hi Sue a warm welcome to the forum im on the same meds re metformin and weight is well weighty lol. I cant say ive heard anything of the med or can even help with the name, hopefully someone will be along to be more helpful.

Welcome.
I am not on that medication but I am sure someone who is will be along.

Welcome to the forum, sue34. I think members are going to struggle to share experiences without knowing the name of the proposed drug. Many oral diabetes medications have the effect of reducing blood glucose levels by increasing your kidneys' ability to excrete glucose into urine.
As well as increasing medication, there are a few other actions that are important - considering carbohydrate content of foods (not just sugar content), increasing physical activity, tackling your weight (you mention your weight isn't good).

Hi Sue, welcome!
Sounds as though it might be one of the gliflozins? I think @Rosiecarmel might be on one of these - sorry if I have got this wrong, Rosie!

Hi Sue I am one the drugs in this group. Canaglifoxin. I have now been on this for 2 months. Thus far no problems with UTI. I was advised to drink plenty which I have been doing. There has been an improvement in my hb1ac

Hope this helps

Helen

Aaah!!! That could be the one Helen!!! Thanks for that. I'll Google I think...see what I can find. I'm willing to give anything a go....my last HbA1c was 7....which I didn't think was bad but obviously the goal posts have moved yet again! XX🙂

Pleased that this was helpful. There are a number of drugs in this group. Good luck with it
